Charlie Jackson
"Oh my god Charlie, Andrew is going to drop dead when he sees you in this!" Lizzie ran her hand over the satin dress I was getting ready to pay for.
My mom gently took it from me and walked up to the counter to pay.
"You still haven't decided on which one you want?" I looked back and forth between Lizzie's two dress options; a lacy pink one and an emerald green one.
She pursed her lips. "I'm leaning more towards the pink, but I've been told I look good in green."
"You'd look amazing in either." I reassured her.
"I wish my mom were here to help me decide." She sighed. Lizzie's mom never seemed to be around. Today she had handed Lizzie her credit card and told her to get whatever she wanted.
"I'm sure she'll love whatever you pick." I attempted to comfort her.
Last week when I was at camp, we had discovered that not only can Lizzie see through the mist, but she's also a daughter of Apollo. It makes sense, considering she's always been a drama kid, playing the leading roles in both plays and musicals. She had a gift for singing and being in the spotlight. Her mom hadn't known that Apollo was Lizzie's father but she'd known there was something special about him. So after a talk with both of my parents, her mom had given Lizzie permission to head to camp with my family this summer. I was completely shocked and totally ecstatic to find out that my best friend could now be a part of the other side of my life.
Amelia exited the dressing room, with a dress slung over her shoulder. "I'm getting this one." She announced.
"Let us see!" Lizzie rushed forward and took the dress from her. "Wow, it's beautiful!" She extended her arm and held the dress out for us all to see.
It was a long, glittering black dress with little straps and a deep v-neck. "Oh my gods, that's the perfect dress for you!" I exclaimed.
Amelia blushed, "Are you sure it's not too much?"
"It's perfect." I repeated. She smiled and walked away to make her purchase. At the same time, my mom returned to us holding my dress on a hanger with a cover over it.
"Have you decided yet, Lizzie?" She asked.
Lizzie turned back to her options. "I think I'm going to go with the pink.
"Excellent choice, it will look beautiful on you." She smiled.
Lizzie beamed and followed Amelia to go pay.
"Are you satisfied with you dress?" Mom asked me.
I nodded. "I think it's perfect."
"We'll have to get Andrew a matching tie." She joked.
"Oh yeah, definitely." I smiled.
Soon everyone had paid and we went our separate ways back to our homes. As soon as I got home, I hung my dress up in my closet and closed the doors. I didn't want Andrew to see it until Prom night. But that didn't mean Ethan couldn't see it.
I left my room and walked down the hall. I was about to knock on the door when I heard Ethan talking to someone. I couldn't hear the other person's voice so I assumed he was on the phone. Ethan sounded upset and irritated, so of course I opened the door slightly and listened.
"Are you sure you can't make it?" he asked quietly. He paused listening to the other person.
"Yeah, it's fine, I get it... ok..." He laughed, "yeah whatever... ok bye." He hung up and fell back onto his bed, running a hand through his hair.
