alright kiddies, let's talk about story plotting!!
so i'm just going to be real. i plan out my stories for weeks or even months before i even start publishing my books. at the very least, i'll have the basic plot points of each chapter and each character's general arc over the course of the story. for instance, i've had butterflies planned out since september and stardust planned out since october.
the best thing you can do is have a very clear beginning for a character and a very clear ending with some very specific turning points for that character in between that lead them to that ending. some of the details in the middle might change as you write the story and begin to edit. some plot points might not work with the story, and so it makes better sense to cut them. i also tend to change these middle plot points when i get new ideas. however, when you do that, you'll need to replace that with plot points that still make sense with the characters journey.
the most important thing is that the plot is consistent. minimize plot holes as much as you can by taking note of things you write or details you change so you can remember them for future chapters!! i tend to keep all my notes for books in a google doc along with all my chapter plans and stuff like that.
summary – if you plot out your stories before you start writing, then it'll be much better for both yourselves and your readers!!
