Chapter Two: A new friend?

Captain Barnacles POV: I woke up to the sun shining through the ocean water I slowly got up and saw Mary sleeping peacefully I smiled softly and got ready for the day as I was putting on my hat I heard Mary babbling I chuckled to myself as I walked out and picked her up she snuggled into my chest when I noticed a strange plush of a wolf with multiple tails with pale brown fur green button eyes and in a blue sundress of some kind it was in a light blue color scheme and the doll had a bow in its hair with a star in the bows center the doll was in the basket with Mary so I picked it up and Mary grabbed it making happy babbles I smiled slightly and gave her the plush she held it tightly in her tiny paws I cradled her in my arms smiling softly at her innocent actions as she babbled we exited my room and headed to the cafe

"Good morning Captain!" Shellington greeted me I wished him the same as he gave me a bottle filled with milk I thanked him and started to feed Mary who drank it happily I laughed slightly as Mary held the plush tightly still

"Aww did you get that plush for her Captain?" Dashi asked camera in paws I shook my head and told them Mary had it in the basket with her when I woke up Dashi and Shellington were shocked at my response and once Mary finished her bottle I burped her after I sat down and placed her on my lap so I could really get a good look at the plush when I saw a note on the back I read it carefully

"Hello there my name is Rosabelle Rose for short I am a sunewolf aka a wolf with multiple tails I hope we can be friends!" the note ended Mary was babbling softly playing with the plush I softly smiled as Mary played without a care in the world she's so adorable

"I swear I will keep her safe," I thought as the plush began to glow I picked up Mary as the plush got bigger looking more like wolf after the bright light dimmed I saw the most beautiful girl I'd ever met, her beautiful pale brown fur, emerald green eyes, and the kindest smile I'd ever seen she looked around when her eyes set on Mary and when Mary saw her she giggled happily holding out her paws to the woman I cleared my throat and introduced myself she smiled softly

"I'm Rosabelle but everyone calls me Rose!" Rose said smiling holding out her paw I took it shaking it she had the kindest smile I've ever seen I feel like I've met her from my past but I'm not sure her tails swayed slightly as her ears twitched as I gave her my name

"It's a pleasure to meet you Captain Barnacles!" Rose said smiling softly then the others started to question Rose and the plush while Mary clings to my shirt I chuckled slightly as I hum softly to her earning some squeaky roars of joy I chuckled slightly as she hugged my paw she must have been alone if she's clinging to me like this I promise that I will keep her safe from everything that tries to hurt her Mary giggled in my arms as Rose walked to me

"Hi little one" Rose said in a gentle tone to Mary as she let out a squeaky roar to her trying to scare Rose off causing Rose to chuckle

"Oh your so scary!" Rose said in a honeyed tone holding Mary in her arms she seemed to know how to care for cubs like Mary which surprised me greatly her bow with the star in the middle was out of reach for Mary who was trying to grab it like she wanted it I chuckled softly

"Oh! do you like my bow?" Rose asked to Mary getting happy growls as an answer I could see a happy smile on Rose's muzzle as she tickled Mary causing Mary to let out squeaky roars of delight I smiled as Shellington started to ask Rose some questions

"So what are you? your nothing I've ever seen before!" Shellington said Rose thought for a moment before speaking

"I am a Sunewolf" Rose said I was confused now what was a Sunewolf I asked her and she only smiled at me

"in short a Sunewolf is a Wolf with Kitsune DNA hence the multiple tails I have" Rose said her multiple tails moving slightly then I saw there were types pearls on her ears I asked her about them and she sighed giving Mary to Dashi

"you see I wasn't always like this....I used to be a normal wolf my mom was an alpha wolf while my dad was a kitsune back home in a forest near a river is my pack my mother has come from a long line of ultima's* with my grandmother being the late ultima of my pack she sadly passed away years ago when me and my sister Nya were 10 and 5 years old I am currently 26 so she would be 21 I....I haven't seen her since I was 15 and she was 10...because I was sent to be a guardian against my will because of my father selling me off..." Rose said sadly I was shocked I could see the others tearing up as well I couldn't believe it then I noticed that Rose had a saddened look in her only visible eye I wanted to ask more questions but I knew it would be rude so I kept quiet but I did ask where they were now

"My pack is located in a forest in oregon I believe but over time the pack does move all over the place so I'm not exactly sure where my pack is now" Rose said I nodded and turned to Dashi telling her to start looking for Rose's pack she nodded and handed Mary back to me then went to the HQ I turned to Rose telling her I was going to help her get to her family again I saw her smile again I could tell she was happy then Dashi came back

"It's a long trip since it's on the other side of the world Cap" Dashi said I thanked her and saw Mary trying to grab my hat again I chuckled more as I saw Rose with a saddened look I asked Shellington if he could watch Mary for a bit while I give Rose a tour

"Oh! uh of course Captain!" Shellington said holding Mary carefully as I took Rose to a different room to talk to her alone she looked confused as I slowly took a deep breath and asked her why she hid her other eye she seemed shocked but calmed down

"It's...It's Personal" Rose said I wanted to push for answers but knew it wouldn't help so I left it at that I offered a job for her to help out the Octonauts but she would have to see Professor Inkling to see if she was a good fit this caused her only visible eye to light up as she gave me a gentle smile

"Thank you so much!" Rose said smiling I told her it wasn't an issue and that she could always count on me to listen to her issues she smiled to me seemingly thankful to me I couldn't help but smile back as we walked she seemed a bit on edge so I asked her what was an Ultima this caused Rose to freeze

"a-an Ultima is like the king or queen of the pack or packs plural but my father hated that there was a chance that I was next in line and not my sister as according to legends a wolf must be born during a certain time of year, during a rare event like a meteor shower for example, and one parent must be an alpha those requirements must be met in order to become an ultima and unfortunately for me and my sister I was born on a rare blue moon one that only happened once every couple thousand years and my sister was born during a meteor shower so my father sold me off to some academy and they made me a Sunewolf Guardian so my sister could have a better chance at becoming an ultima but from a young age she never wanted to be the ultima at all she was more kitsune than wolf and another requirement was that she had to be at least 25% wolf and she was actually 45% wolf and the rest was kitsune..." Rose said softly I was worried about what she went through while at that so called "academy" and I wanted to ask but decided against as it seems it's a touchy subject for her but decided to ask her about her father and if she wanted to see him again

"To be honest I...I'm not sure if I want to see him again.." Rose said softly as I carefully took her paw into mine telling her that on my honor as an Octonaut I will keep her and Mary safe from harm I'm not sure why but Rose's face seemed to heat up slightly I hope she doesn't have a fever but for now I showed Rose to her new room and left her to gather her thoughts on my way back to the kitchen I saw Mary trying to chew on a carrot plush confused I looked at Tweak and Shellington who were just as confused as I was

"we gave a choice of which plush she wanted to practice and she took the carrot instead of the fish Captain" Shellington said as I chuckle slightly taking Mary from them as she continued to chew on the carrot plush causing me to chuckle once again as Mary lets out squeaky roars of delight causing me to smile slightly as I held her

"well at least we have something just in case she starts to teeth" Tweak said biting into a carrot as I chuckled once more Tweak did have a point there but I started to wonder if Rose was really okay or not I calmed down once she was ready to open up I will be a listening ear for her
