Mason Cooper

1 week later

For the most part, our friend group was back to normal. Ethan was more distant than usual, but he still hangs around because he's close with everyone but me.

Sadly, Andrew made the soccer team. The issue of the newspaper with my article got banned from school, and a new story came out. Apparently, the news channel that I got the stories off of was uncredible and twisted the story. Andrew's mom gave another story that I guess told the truth where it had some witness accounts. I'm not sure if I believe it.

The worst part is that now that Andrew is on the team, everyone seems to like him more than me. I'm genuinely scared that he'll be voted captain this year.  While I sit with Charlie and the rest of the group at lunch, Andrew sits with the soccer team most days.

"Do you guys want to go somewhere?" Lizzie asked, as we all sat in the back of the truck. "I feel like it's been forever since the six of us have actually hung out."

"I can't today." Ethan frowned. "I'm going up to Oakland to visit a friend." He and Charlie shared a look.

"What about the rest of you?" Lizzie looked around.

Charlie elbowed her and grinned. "Of course."

"I'm free." I smiled.

"Same." Lincoln said quickly. He would never pass up an opportunity to hang out with Lizzie.

"Sure why not." Amelia shrugged. "What are we going to do?"

Lizzie shrugged. Then poked Charlie teasingly. "We could get matching tattoos."

Charlie laughed. "Yeah I'm not putting myself through that pain again for a long time. Plus, you guys don't have fake IDs."

"I could just use Ethans." Lincoln joked.

"Dude we look nothing alike." Ethan laughed.

Lincoln ran a hand through his chestnut hair, "If I bleach it we look just alike."

"We're not getting tattoos." Charlie confirmed.

"Fine," Lincoln rolled his eyes, "what are we going to do then?"

"Why not just get ice cream and go to Crissy Field?" Amelia suggested.

"Sounds good to me." I shrugged. We all agreed and a few minutes later we were getting into our cars to go to the park. I offered to give Charlie a ride, but she was already going with Lizzie.

We were at the park in a few minutes and walked over to the ice cream cart to get what we wanted. I offered to buy for everyone, but Charlie has this weird thing where she doesn't like when people do stuff for her so she bought her own.

We sat down in the grass letting the cool sea breeze wash over us.

"I hate it here." Charlie said out of the blue.

"At the park?" Amelia asked, confused.

"No, the park is fine, I hate San Francisco I mean." She clarified, staring out into the ocean.

"Why?" I asked her.

She shrugged, "I miss New York."

"But the weather is so much nicer here." Lizzie said.

She shrugged again, "Maybe, but New York is home. Ever since I moved here, I feel like I don't belong."

"You're literally like the most loved person at school though." I pointed out.

"That's not what I mean." She shook her head. "It just doesn't feel right."

"You've been here for three years though." Licoln said.
