"You good?" Caden ask

"You good?" Caden ask. The both of us sitting in an empty parking lot. I can't help but feel like I'm no use to anyone. Does my dad see me as a depressed teenage girl?

"Yeah." I lie. He shakes his head, catching my lie.

"No your not, tell me what happened." After a moment of silence, giving in knowing he wont let this go, signing quietly before I talk.

"I don't know, I just feel like I have nothing else to live for." I shrug like my words were the most normal thing.

"Why do you say this?" He looks at me, his hand under his chin.

"Well uh," I furrow my eyebrows. "Beatrice would always blame me for her sister leaving." Caden looks at me curiously. "Aunt Lee and Uncle Kio, basically ghosted everyone after my cousin disappeared." I say it like it's a casual thing to say.

"When did your cousin disappeared?" He ask, twirling a strand of my hair around his finger. He's looking at me like I'm the most interesting person in the world.

"Around eight years ago." I answer.

"Why would your mom blame you though?" He ask, his tone filled with disgust yet having a calm face expression.

"That day he disappeared, Romero," I stop for a moment at the mention of his name. "Hudson and I were playing hide and seek and so me and him hid and when Romero started to approach, we obviously started to run." I sign. "Looking back when he wasn't chasing us but a masked man was." I gulp trying to get rid the knot, that's starting to form. "Hudson grabbed my hand and we ran faster until suddenly I didn't feel his grip anymore, the man took him." I gave him an emotionless smile. "After Romero died, Beatrice just started to blame me for it." I let out a bitter laugh. "Look at me surrounding myself in self pity."

What the fuck is wrong with me? He probably thinks I want his stupid pity from him.

"There is absolutely nothing wrong with telling me about your issues. When I told you about my parents I didn't expect you to give me your pity, I told you because I trust you Aven." He smiles charmingly at me. "Should I be worried that I trust you with my whole life?" He bumped my shoulder with his.

"No because I do too." I repeated his action.

"You know what I find crazy Aven?" He ask, looking slightly doze off. He continues not waiting for my response. "I find it really crazy how amazingly strong you are." He stares at me in amazement. "Like on some really shit Aven," he nods. "And by the way you should feel honored I trust you with my life because I don't have many of those."

"Me? Honored?" I scoff. "You should feel honored, I can't think of that many people who Heaven Carter can trust." I smile.

"Yeah, yeah okay." He rolls his eyes teasingly. "Now Heaven Thea Carter-" I cut him off.

"How do you know my middle name?" I ask.

"I've known you since we were like nine, of course I'm going to know your middle name." He deadpan playfully.
