Gabriel's pov.
Gabriel had been let down gently.
So gently in fact, that had he allowed himself a brief moment of 'but what if?' he could have easily imagined that 'next time I stub my toe, I'll come running' meant: 'I'll actively seek out every table leg bed frame and random piece of furniture so I can get another smooch'.
But it had been nothing more than Theodore being uncharacteristicly gentle, considering how sharp his tongue could be.Uncharacteristicly gentle, or maybe simply nonchalant.
Gabriel had thrown his heart on the line and lost, had made a leap of faith and Theodore had practicaly glossed over it as if the proverbial leap hadn't been a leap at all but something as simple as stepping off a proverbial sidewalk. As if his desires and feelings were easily dismissible.
If only he could dismiss them just as effortlessly. Having indulged, after having suppressed them for forever, they were louder than ever before.New to the party, and loudest of all was heartbreak, accompanied by the strange need for more, in the form of hearing Theodore say it loud and clear. A proper rejection. A 'no you can't kiss me, fuck off'.
Because, ever so softly, despite his better judgement, what if, what if, what if, still whispered his heart.
-------------------------------------------------------
Theodore's bedroom window looked out over the garden, and Gabriel couldn't keep himself from stealing glances.
Not a smart move when you're in the middle of a water fight.
Already soaked to the bone, he was hit with another splash of water by a grinning Oliver.
It was a welcome distraction and he lost himself in the game and the water. He'd hardly looked up anymore, or so he told himself. There was no real conclusion to their game, though Oliver claimed victory. Tired and out of breath, they laid down on the grass.
"You keep looking up." Oliver noted.
Gabriel didn't cast his eyes away from the window, "Yeah, I try to keep a positive outlook on life."
He could almost feel Oliver's eye roll, "Okay, dickweed, I'll go ahead and ask straight out then. Are you crushing on Theo?"
He replied with a simple "Yes." but the one sylibal felt so much more impactful than that.
