Can't Outrun Everything - Newt x Reader

Chapter Four

A girl was lying in the box. She gasped, "Thomas," and then passed right back out. Everyone turned around and stared at Thomas. Alby and Minho rushed her to Clint so he could see if she was alright. The box wasn't supposed to come up for another few weeks. Everyone was freaking out. "Thomas, do you know her?" y/n asked. "No," Thomas responded, even though he did recognize her but didn't know from where. "Well, she knows you," Newt told him. "Look, I'm going on a walk to try to figure out what's going on," y/n told them. "Not by yourself. You barely have your strength back," Newt said to her. "I'll be fine, don't worry," y/n reassured him. "It's okay, Newt. She can take care of herself," Thomas uttered. y/n walked off into the Deadheads. As she was walking, she saw another glader.

"You're Ben, right?" She asked. Just as she said those words, Ben tried to attack her. y/n started running as fast as she could; she was scared for her life. "Help!" She cried out. Newt and Thomas turned their heads to see Ben trying to kill y/n. Newt and Thomas run towards them. Thomas gets hold of Ben while Newt tries to comfort y/n. They had no other choice but to take Ben's life. Thomas shoved a spear through Ben's heart. "What happened to him?" y/n asked Newt. "We call it the changing. It's what happens when you get stung by a griever," Newt explained. Clint came running up to them, "The girl, she's awake!" he exclaimed. She wasn't in the medical center though, the girl had climbed up to the top of one of their bases, and she had no intention of coming down. When they walked over to where the girl was, she was throwing stuff down at them.

"Hey! Hey! It's Thomas! I'm coming up!" Thomas called out. The girl stopped throwing things when she heard him say his name. Thomas started to climb up to the top. Once Thomas got to the top, she asked, "Where am I?" "You're in the Glade. You'll get your name back in a couple of days. It's the one thing they let us keep," Thomas explained. "My name is Teresa," she told him. "When I woke up, I found this note in my sleeve and this blue liquid," she explained. The note read, "She's the last one ever." Thomas read the message in shock. Trying not to look too worried, he said, "Come on, let's get down from here." Thomas helps her down, and Clint takes her back to the medical area. Gally came over to where y/n and Thomas were. Gally pushed Thomas. "Back off, Gally!" y/n told him. "Everything started to go wrong after these two freaks got here!" he yelled at them. "Gally, remember the rules; we don't fight other gladers," Newt told him. Suddenly, they heard a noise coming from the other side of the Glade; the other wall was opening, but it should have been closing instead. They listen to screams coming from the other wall that had opened. Everything goes quiet until they hear a griever. They turn around to see grievers starting to come out of the Maze and into the Glade. Everyone ran over to the medical area and started to hide. One griever tries to attack Newt, but y/n pushes him out of the way. After they get up off the ground, Newt runs over to y/n and hugs her, "You could have died!" he yelled, worrying that he could have lost her. Newt grabs hold of y/n's hand and starts running toward the medical area. While they were hiding, one of the grievers got hold of Alby, and he never came back. No one slept that night in fear that they might die.

Once the sun started to rise, the grievers left. In the morning, they decided it was time to try to find a way out of the Maze. Gally and a couple of other gladers chose to stay in the Glade. Before they left to go into the Maze, Newt had something to tell y/n, "Just in case we don't make it out of the Maze, there's something I've wanted to tell you for the longest bloody time," Newt said, acting all nervous. "I bloody love you. I have since the very first day you showed up in the box," he told her. "Newt, I love you too. You were always there for me, even when I was acting jacked," y/n said to him with the biggest smile on her face. Newt hugged y/n, and before they started their journey into the Maze, Newt kissed her in front of all the other gladers, just in case it was the last time he would ever see her again. When Newt kissed y/n, the other gladers looked a little shocked. Minho just smiled at Newt and gave him the thumbs up.

They ran as fast as they could through the Maze. While they were running, they ran into a couple of grievers. Minho quickly tried to kill them before they were able to hurt anyone. They came to find a door at the end of the Maze and opened it as fast as possible. Once everyone was through the doors, they went into a long hallway. There were two directions, left or right. They quickly started heading right because they weren't sure what could be down the halls, so it was better to stay together. At the end of the hall were lots of scientists that seemed to have died of human causes. After watching a video, everyone headed out to the entrance, where they were met by people waiting for them in helicopters. All of the gladers ran into the vehicle, still confused about all that was going on. But, one thing seemed clear, they may have been safe. Newt sat across from y/n; he seemed the most confused out of everyone. y/n got up to sit next to Newt. "It's okay, Newt, we made it," y/n said to him with an arm wrapped around his shoulder, trying to comfort him.
