When She Was Little...

I couldn't hang out with Uncle Qrow the next day because Ozpin wanted to run some tests about my Grimm-taming abilities.

I gasped in excitement while jumping onto the table. "I've got it!" I announced. "Got what?" Glynda asked. "I know a way for both Grimm and humans to exist together!" I informed.

"Oh, this has to be good." Ian said, sarcastically.

"Shut up and listen! I say we gather all the Grimm in Remnant and put them in a compound! That way, Grimm can still live freely without hurting anyone! They won't even have to get near anyone!" I said with a big grin.

Glynda and Ian looked at each other, then back at me. "You want to gather the Grimm to make a petting zoo?" Ian said.

"Exactly! Pretty cool, right?" I said. "Pretty stupid." Ian mumbled.

"That's... quite the imagination, Ms. Rose. But to perform something like that... You would need many soldiers to collect Grimm without killing them. And you'd have to keep the Grimm contained in an environment they would enjoy and cages that are hard to break free from." Glynda explained.

"Basically, you're talking about doing the impossible, and something that would take years, maybe even decades to accomplish." Ian translated.

"Oh..." I sat down on the table in disappointment. "It's not impossible if you have the right tools." I mumbled.

I glanced at the Boarbatusk sitting in front of me, then petted the top of its head. "Maybe if we were always calm and showed the Grimm we're no harm to them, we wouldn't have a need to kill Grimm."

"It's not as easy as it sounds, Lily." Ian stated. "I know..." I sulked. "How much longer do I have to be here with the Boarbatusk?"

"What's the rush? Got somewhere to be?" Ian asked. "Not really. I just want to make sure Shadow's okay," I informed. "If he starts howling, it'll draw attention and-"

"Relax, Shrimp. Your Beowolf's fine. It's sleeping right now." Ian said. He let me look at his scroll and I saw Shadow in our dorm, curled up in a ball, snoring softly.

"You put a camera in our room?" I asked.

"Yeah. Just for precautionary measures."

"Isn't that an invasion of privacy?"

"Maybe."

"And doesn't that make you a pervert?"

"No."

Glynda walked over to Ian and whispered something in his ear. He nodded once to her, then left the room.

"We'll be right back, Ms. Rose." Glynda informed, and followed after Ian. She closed the door behind her and I continued to pet the Boarbatusk with a sigh.

Glynda's POV

The elevator doors opened to reveal Ozpin and Qrow. "OK, I'm here. Now, tell me why I'm here." Qrow said. "It's about your niece, Qrow." I said. "What about her?" He asked.

"See for yourself." Ian said, stepping aside. Qrow looked through the two-way mirror and saw Lily sitting on the table while petting the Boarbatusk in front of her.

"Huh. Well, that's something you don't see every day." Qrow said, rather calmly. "How the hell are you so calm?! That's your niece in there with a Grimm!" Ian said.

"And you are?" Qrow asked, drinking from his flask. "This is Ian Hyde. I've asked him to look after Lily while she's visiting Beacon." Ozpin explained.

"Qrow, the way you're so calm with the situation, it's as if you've seen something like this before." I mentioned.

Qrow looked at Lily again, then sighed. "When Lily was 7, she was playing outside the house. While Tai was with the girls, Lily was playing alone. Lily's ball rolled off into the woods and she chased after it," He explained.

"Her ball rolled pretty far from the house. When Lily finally caught up to it, she was surrounded by Beowolves. Lily was too scared to move. I still remember seeing the fear on her face. Her body trembling as that ball was clenched between her hands. One of the Beowolves approached and Lily closed her eyes, whimpering. Just before I could attack, the strangest thing happened. The Beowolf sniffed her, then licked her cheek. I couldn't believe it, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. But they weren't. Lily giggled and hugged the Beowolf's face. I decided to wait things out. I must've waited for a good two hours. Finally, Lily fell asleep by the Grimm and I took my chance. When I revealed myself, the Grimm got on guard, and they... they guarding here. They were protecting Lily. It was a long battle, but I finally managed to kill them all, and Lily somehow managed to sleep through all that,"

Qrow paused to take a drink from his flask before continuing. "I took Lily home and put her in her room, and waited for her to wake up. When she did, the first thing she asked was, "Uncle Qrow, what happened to my wolf friends?" I had to lie to her and tell her it was just a dream. I can never forget that day. I can never understand why those Grimm didn't attack Lily. It was something I've never seen before." He finished.

"That's some story." Ian said. I looked at Lily through the mirror and saw her staring off into space. "I think that's enough for today." Ozpin said.

Ian nodded and went inside the room to retrieve Lily. "And you're certain that Ruby or Yang can't do what Lily can do?" I asked Qrow.

"I'm certain of it," He replied. "I don't know how and I don't know why, but Lily shouldn't be able to to do what she can do. It just... doesn't make sense."
