And with that aching heart came tears.
Kageyama didn't know why there were these hot tears coming out of his eyes and they wouldn't stop. It was like a switch went off inside the taller boy when he realized that Hinata was the little boy who gave him a flower when he was crying.
As Tobio desperately tried to wipe his tears away, Shoyo could hear that faint sound of crying again. He too was feeling a sense of deja vu. Both being in this field, and the sounds of a distanced sniffling. But this time, the crying was not far away from him. It was coming from the boy right behind him.
"Kageyama...why are you crying?" Hinata looked at Tobio with a concerned look in his eyes, as he walked closer to the taller boy. Kageyama attempted to shoo the orange haired boy away, not wanting him to see him cry. "Come on, don't cry. Here!" He happily exclaimed, handing him a yellow dandelion he picked near the pond.
Kageyama just looked at the boy in front of him. The boy who was now handing him another dandelion while he was crying, once again.
Just like he did 11 years ago.
And at that point, Tobio had just collapsed down to his knees, now knowing the tears won't stop as much as he tried to wipe them away.
Seeing that oh so familiar dandelion in the shorter boy's hands made him weak. It brought back that faint, but important memory that was buried deep within his own mind. Even though it was so insignificant, even though he figured Shoyo had already forgotten about it,
It was the first time Tobio ever fell in love with someone.
"Kageyama!" Hinata dropped down to his knees also, becoming leveled with the weeping boy. Shoyo was still holding that bright, yellow dandelion in his hand, but he was also holding Tobio's face within his hands. He was very concerned since he's actually never seen Kageyama cry this hard before. Or maybe he has, and he just forgot it. "Hey, what's wrong?" He asked with a comforting tone, attempted to wipe all the tears away from the tall setter's face.
Tobio was so overwhelmed with emotions, that he couldn't tell what was what. He couldn't determine if he was sad, or if he was happy. He couldn't decide whether or not remembering that memory made elated or devastated. Mostly because of the news he knows about Shoyo now.
The news that he didn't know the smaller was going through for almost his whole lifetime.
"Wh- Why did it ha- have to be y- you.." Kageyama stammered through his breaths, trying to get ahold of himself. But he couldn't stop the hysterical tears from flowing down his face.
"Kageyama...what are you talking about?" Hinata was beyond confused with what Kageyama was talking about, but it was like he shared the pain with the taller boy. Shoyo's heart was aching seeing Tobio so distressed when being here was supposed to be something fun that they'd both experience together.
"Why did you have to be the boy I met 11 years ago? Why did you have to be sick?" Kageyama was spouting out a bunch of things Hinata couldn't understand. Shoyo understood the part about being sick but he didn't know what the taller boy meant by, 'the boy 11 years ago'.
But even though he didn't understand, he figured it must've been something very important to make Kageyama cry this hard. So he pieced together that he must've somehow met him when they were young. Shoyo felt bad he couldn't remember but, he could at least pretend for now. At least until he really did remember.
"I guess that makes us soulmates, huh?" Hinata let out a lively giggle, having Kageyama look up with hearing the words 'soulmate'.
"Soulmates?" Kageyama looked up at Hinata. The shorter boy was nodding his head, smiling down on Tobio while still holding his teary face within his hands. Tobio was dumbfounded that Shoyo could still be smiling with all he's gone through. 'Please. Never stop smiling.' His body moved on its own, as he pulled the orange haired boy into a kiss.
Shoyo was starstruck by this kiss, but he just melted into it. He had no intentions of pushing the taller boy off which sort of surprised Kageyama. But even if it did, he didn't pull apart either.
"I love you Kageyama." Hinata abruptly confessed his feelings, after pulling apart to take a breath. He traced his thumb against Kageyama's slightly puffy eyes as they both went wide, but a natural smile eventually grew onto his face.
"And I love you." Tobio smiled, pulling the smaller boy into another kiss.
A requited love.
No matter what... Not the time or place, Circumstance, Future or present,
Shoyo could always make a smile grow upon Kageyama's face.
