"That's all for today's class. Make sure to study for your tests next week." Their teacher warned the class, taking his leave out of the classroom. They all had an upcoming math test, and unfortunately for Kageyama and Hinata, they're going to have to study pretty hard to make up for their terrible scores on their other quizzes.
"Oi, let's go, it's lunch time." Kageyama nagged, tapping Shoyo on the top of his head. They both always ate lunch together, out in the field, and away from all of the other people.
"Yeah, coming!" Hinata exclaimed, packing up his things and darting out of the class to follow Kageyama.
The walk out into the field was pretty peaceful. The breeze was heavy today but, you could still hear the faint sound of birds chirping away in distanced trees. The grass swayed along to the wind, and so did Kageyama and Hinata's hair. The two boys always had some kind of packed lunch so they didn't have to go into the cafeteria to get their food.
Once they got there, Hinata plopped down, taking a large bite out of his sandwich. He was munching on that while Kageyama was taking sips of his drink, laying back against a tree trunk.
"Hey...MUNCH...Kageyama, I have a...CHOMP...question to ask you." Hinata suddenly spoke in between chewing his sandwich. "Answer honestly, okay?" He added, making Kageyama stare at the smaller boy in confusion.
"You should really finish your sandwich before talking." Kageyama huffed, "but what is it?" He asked, ready to answer whatever question the orange haired boy had for him. Hinata was pretty silent for a good five minutes, debating on whether or not he should ask the question he wanted to ask. "If you're not going to ask the question, then why'd you bring it up?" He questioned, getting a little impatient with the shorter boy.
"Would you change your actions toward me if I told you I was sick?" Hinata asked a question, totally out of the blue. This caught Kageyama by surprise a little, making him confused on why Shoyo would ask that.
"Like a cold? A flu?" Kageyama interrogated the orange haired boy, prodding for more information on what Hinata meant. 'What a weird question.' He scrunched his face him, slightly gazing at Shoyo.
"Yeah...something that like." Hinata finished up his sandwich, flopping his back onto the soft, green grass below him. 'What would you say, Kageyama?'
"Nope." Kageyama bluntly spat out, making Shoyo's eyes go a bit wide. "You're still going to be your annoying self, sick or not." He scoffed, making Hinata grin a bit. He knew that was supposed to be an insult but, that was oddly the answer he was looking for. "So, why'd you ask that question? You sick or something?" He pried, looming over the boy laying back on the grass.
"Nah, just asking." Hinata widely smiled, letting out a chuckle here and there. "Sometimes, I'm glad you are the way you are Kageyama." He let out a carefree laugh, taking Tobio aback a bit. That sounded strangely like a compliment.
"Hey! What do you mean by that you moron?!" Kageyama snapped, palming the boy who was laying down in the face. This caused Hinata to wince and groan, holding his whole face.
"Owwwchhh! Stupid Kageyama!" Hinata whined, furiously rubbing his face on the area Tobio smacked. "I'll get you back for that Kageyama!" He yelled, jolting up, and tackling the taller boy down. This ended up making Kageyama lay his back down onto the grass, with Shoyo looming right over him.
"Oi you dumbass! Get off of me!" Kageyama grumbled, feeling the force of the smaller boy sitting on top of his stomach. Still, Shoyo was joyously sitting cross-legged on top of the taller boy.
"Hahah! Not a chance Kageyama!" Shoyo giggled, looking down on Tobio with those sun-like eyes of his. "I'll always beat you Kageyama!" He triumphed, acting like he just conquered over the taller boy. If there's one thing Kageyama hated, it was his complex of not wanting to lose to the orange haired boy. Even if they were just fooling around.
"You'll never beat me, dumbass!" Kageyama sneered, getting up and flipping the shorter boy around so he ended up on the top. "You're too wimpy to keep me down you moron." He condescendingly snickered, now looking down onto Shoyo.
"Hey! Let me go stupid Kageyama!" Hinata squirmed under the force of Kageyama, half giggling, and half trying to get out from under Tobio. "Okay! Okay! I give in!" He laughed until tears of amusement formed in the corner of his eyes. He tapped the grass next to him, acting like a wrestler tapping out from under their opponent.
When Hinata opened his eyes, he caught a glance of Kageyama looking down on him. And for some reason, there was an strange look in the taller boy's eyes. This caused confusion for the smaller boy, as he was trying to figure out the puzzling look within Tobio's eyes. The normally grumpy setter's face was relaxed, gazing down on Shoyo.
"Kageyama? Why are you looking at me like that?" Hinata's face was full of bewilderment, leaning in closer and acknowledging that Kageyama's face looked strange. Tobio realized that, donning on his usual stone-cold expression.
"I-I'm just looking on how stupid you look!" Kageyama sputtered, covering Hinata's face with his hand. 'Dammit, what am I doing?' He heavily sighed, not removing his palm from the surface of Shoyo's face.
RRIINNGG!
The lunch bell rang, signaling that the lunch period was over. Kageyama got up off the smaller boy, letting Hinata roll freely up to his feet. He dusted the pieces of green and yellowish grass on his uniform off, and dusting until all of them fell to the ground. The last period was club activities so, Tobio and Shoyo had to go off to volleyball practice.
"Race ya, Kageyama!" Hinata taunted, sprinting off to the direction of the gym. Kageyama didn't have the advantage of running first so, this caught him by a bit of surprise.
"HEY YOU MORON! GET BACK HERE!" Kageyama shouted, running as fast as he could to catch up with the smaller boy. It was a bit difficult since Hinata was so quick on his feet, not surprising seeing his agility on the court. Still, Tobio tried his hardest to catch up to the orange haired boy, running his hardest.
'Please, I don't want you to overexert yourself...'
The sound of his mother's words were still sitting in the back of Hinata's head, collecting dust.
Honestly, Hinata should listen to his mother every once and awhile.
