The next morning...
"Shoyo honey, I don't think you should attend school today." Hinata's mom looked at her son with concern.
The reasoning for Shoyo's mom being so concerned was because of how pale the boy looked in the morning. His eye circles were darker than yesterday, his skin more fair than it usually is, and not to mention that he was more tired than the day before. Still, the orange haired boy wanted to attend school because, he didn't want to miss his volleyball practice.
"No mom, it's okay! I'll be fine." Hinata smiled as brightly as he normally does, putting on that facade that he's better than he really is. "I'll just eat a lot this morning!" He giggled, sitting down at the dining table.
"Shoyo..." She sighed, watching her son happily chow down on all the food she made this morning. "Please, I don't want you to overexert yourself. Especially at volleyball practice." She worriedly pleaded. She knew that the smaller boy worked himself hard at volleyball, and a little tooooo much on that note.
"I won't mom! I'll make sure to dial it down a notch." Hinata reassured his worrisome mother, still chowing down on the rice and eggs in his bowl. 'Gosh, you worry too much mom.' He meekly smiled to himself, finishing up the last of his breakfast. After cleaning up and everything, it was time for Shoyo to head on to school. "BYEEE MOMMM!! LOVE YOU, SEE YOU AFTER SCHOOL!" He loudly shouted, giving a huge wave over to his mother.
'Shoyo, why can't you just listen this once?' His mother sighed, waving back, once again, watching as her boy biked off into the distance. It was visible that Shoyo was getting worse but, the smaller boy just shook it off. He didn't bother to find it all too concerning.
---
"Hey Shoyo!" A bunch of Hinata's random friends shouted to him out of random places as he passed through the halls. He just waved at them, giving them his usual, friendly smile. But the smaller boy was only looking for one of his specific friends.
"Kageyama!" Hinata shouted, peeping out of the school's backdoor. When his eyes glanced around the corner, he could see that familiar taller boy getting a drink over at the vending machine. "Heyyyyy Kageyama!" The boy loudly waved to Tobio, jogging over to where he was.
"Oi moron, stop being so loud." Kageyama chastised Hinata, sticking his finger in his ear, acting like the smaller boy had just blown out his ear drum. "Gee, you look terrible." His eyes widened a bit, seeing how much paler Shoyo looked compared to yesterday. 'Man, he looks like he was just revived from the dead.' He gaped at the unwell boy.
"Well, you always look terrible Kageyama." Hinata stuck his tongue out, angering the taller boy early in the morning. Kageyama pinched the left side of Shoyo's cheek, having the smaller boy struggle once again.
"Kageyam--! Ack!" Hinata suddenly exclaimed, feeling like something sharp had slightly cut the side of his face that Kageyama was pinching. 'What?' He questioned, touching the area on which he felt the shocking pain. When he removed his finger, there was a slight trace of blood on his pale fingers. "Kageyama, you should cut your nails!" He chuckled, attempting to wipe the blood off.
"But..my nails aren't even that long." Kageyama held out his hand, showing Hinata his nails that were cut pretty short. "Oh...sorry. You're uh, bleeding." He nervously wiped the blood off of Shoyo's anemic face, not meaning to inflict a wound onto the smaller boy.
"Yeah, don't worry about it! It's just a small amount anyways." Shoyo assured the taller boy, lightly brushing his fingers off of his face. 'How did this happen?' He held his palm over his small cut.
"Wait but-" Kageyama felt a tad bit of guilt, watching as Shoyo continued to wipe the blood off of his face. 'Crap!' He gritted his teeth.
"I'll see you in class!" Hinata didn't wait for Kageyama to finish his sentence, darting off back into the school building. 'Gee, maybe mom was right...' He recalled his mother's words of her wanting him to stay home. There was no reason for Shoyo's skin to cut this easily, but if it did, it could've only meant one thing. 'Hmm, band aid, band aid, band aid...' He rummaged through his backpack, finding the medical pouch he normally carried.
When he finally found it, he dashed into the bathroom, going into the place where he knew there were mirrors. When he appeared in front of one, seeing his reflection, he carefully placed the tan colored band aid across of his cheek.
As he was about to zip up his pouch, he realized something was missing.
'Uh oh, this isn't very good..' Shoyo nervously chuckled to himself, realizing that he left his medication at home. It wasn't in the usual spot of his pouch so, he must've forgotten it on his bedside table. 'Now that's unfortunate.' He scratched his head in a blunder, not knowing what to do now. He couldn't really go home and tell his mom he forgot his medicine.
In Hinata's head:
"SHOYO! I TOLD YOU TO ALWAYS REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR MEDICATION! HOW COULD YOU FORGET?! BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH!" Hinata could imagine facing the wrath of his usual docile mother. But if she found out he'd forgotten it, she'd be pretty upset with the smaller boy.
Back to reality:
RIIINNGGG!!
That was the first bell, signaling that class was about to start. Shoyo washed up his hands, and quickly ran off to his first period class. He clattered in, taking his usual seat next to the taller boy that he left over at the vending machine a while ago.
"Hey Kageyama!" Hinata slammed his butt into his chair, startling the taller boy. Kageyama eyed the band aid on the side of Shoyo's face, still feeling guilty for something that was not even his fault.
"Didn't I say to pipe down, dumbass?" Kageyama frowned, lightly pushing the top of Hinata's face. He made sure not to use too much force, because he didn't want to make the shorter boy bleed again. "Anyways..is your face uh, okay?" He hesitantly mumbled, averting his gaze away from Shoyo's.
"Yeah, yeah, it's fine! I said not to worry about it, remember?" Hinata insisted, continuing to hide the reasoning behind his pale, and thin skin. 'Stop asking so much questions Kageyama..' He thought. "It's not like you actually care, right?" He accidentally said it outloud instead of in his head. The orange haired boy hesitantly looked up at the taller boy, feeling bad that he said it outloud.
"...Nope, I don't! Just, it's my fault I scratched your face and all." Kageyama acted on his stubborn ways, pretending like he didn't care about the smaller boy. 'But why did your skin tear so easily?' He wondered, eyeing the boy who was scribbling something down on a piece of paper.
Soon enough, Kageyama would find out why Hinata's body was slowly growing weaker, and weaker by the day.
