'Merry Christmas!!!! ᒄ₍⁽ˆ⁰ˆ⁾₎ᒃ♪♬'

Tendou rubbed the sleep from his eyes after being awoken from your message. It took him some time to gain his thoughts and realize that it had indeed been Christmas Eve today.

He took a moment before writing a reply.

'Merry Christmas to you as well. I don't really celebrate it though.' He was too sleepy to bother with adding kaomoji to his message and instantly laid his head down again after pressing 'send'.

'Boo! I did though!' Came your fast reply.

Now that got his attention. He knew that Christmas abroad was entirely different from Christmas in Japan. Here it was a day celebrated by sweethearts, boyfriends and girlfriends, lovers.

'On your own?' He asked and suddenly regretted replying to your Christmas wishes or even waking up at all. You had never mentioned dating anyone and he had never seen you with a guy, but that didn't mean there wasn't one. It was a fact that he was growing painfully aware of while he waited for your reply.

'Of course not! I had such a great time! (/^▽^)/ ' Was your response and it was the first time he got annoyed at the enthusiasm of your message.

Even though he knew that asking further questions would only intensify the stabbing pain he was experiencing in his heart, he couldn't help himself.

'What did you do?'

Your reply came quickly. 'We went to eat out, like we do every year. ( ˘▽˘)っ♨ '

Every year? How often had you celebrated Christmas with this guy?

'Did you do the whole gift-giving thing?'

He never really stopped to think why he was continuing this conversation and kept asking for details he really didn't want to know.

'Yeah, I got a new desk lamp!'

... A desk lamp? That was one lame gift. Really, he hadn't ever dated anyone and he knew better than to buy a desk lamp. His next message was typed and sent before he could rein himself in.

'I would have gotten you something way better than a fudging lamp.' He responded and your reply to the message took him completely off guard.

'Maybe next year I should invite you to Christmas then!'

He had only one word to respond to that.

'What?'

Fortunately your next message quickly put him out of his misery.

'I'm not sure my parents would appreciate me inviting someone though, it's kind of a family day... (⌣_⌣") '

Just to be sure he decided to ask for confirmation.

'You celebrated with your parents? And they gave you a desk lamp?' He asked, fully aware that they were probably silly questions to you.

'Yeah, who else?'

He couldn't help but laugh out loud at the relief he felt. After the stress had left him it was time to tease you as revenge.

'A boyfriend, duh. Or a girlfriend if you prefer.' He sent without hesitating.

It remained quiet on your side of the conversation for a while, making him grin.

'It was wrong of me to jump to conclusion though, I should have known you wouldn't be with anyone.（￣へ￣）'. He tried adding fuel to the fire, while simultaneously hoping he wasn't pushing it too far. He felt like getting back at you for scaring him like that though, the fact that you had done so unknowingly was pushed aside for a moment.
