Amberpaw was padding along a worn dirt path. Forest trees were on either side of her, but she couldn't do anything but walk forward. She saw glinting eyes coming from the shadows and tried to walk faster, but her paws wouldn't allow her. The sun was beating down on Amberpaw and making her pelt feel too thick; her mouth wouldn't open when she tried to pant.

"Amberpaw!" a desperate cry came from the trees. Amberpaw noticed the voice of her sister immediately. Stormpaw! I have to go help her! But when she tried to break into a run, her paws forced her to keep padding slowly. Her body didn't let her turn. She heard Stormpaw's desperate cry of grief again, and then a wail of terror coming from the trees to her right. Snowpaw! Her sister were in danger!

Once again, Amberpaw struggled against the force that kept her walking in a straight line, but it was no use. She tried to flatten her ears against her head as more and more cries of grief and terror rose from the forest. Her ears remained pointing straight up so she heard every cry. Worst of all, Amberpaw recognised almost all of the wails.

Stormpaw. Snowpaw. Mudpaw. Flamepaw. Silkpaw. Mousepaw. Moonfire. Burntstar. Toadfeather. Forestpaw. Honeypaw. Daisypaw. Whitefall? Amberpaw felt a pang of confusion as she heard Whitefall's cry of horror echoing through the forest. She didn't know how she knew it was him — she'd never heard Whitefall's yowl before.

"Help us, Amberpaw!" Stormpaw's desperate cry pleaded from the shadows. Snowpaw echoed her sister's pleas.

"Help us!" the wailing voice of Moonfire rang out through the forest.

"I can't!" Amberpaw wretched her mouth open and yowled into the trees. Her paws kept her padded slowly along the forest. Her heart beat faster than it had even gone before. "I wish I could, but I can't!"

The wails of starving kits rose from the shadows and Amberpaw almost collapsed under the pressure of the cries. She yowled for them to stop but they didn't.

"I'm so sorry!" Amberpaw howled as she heard Toadfeather's desperate pleas for help. "I can't help you! I'm trapped — I wish I could! Stop!"

"Help me!" Stormpaw's cries filled her ears as suddenly cats began appearing out of the undergrowth and come marching towards her. Their eyes were wide with fear as they continued to plead for help.  Amberpaw tried to run but she was trapped. Fear gripped her heart as the desperate cats came closer. Amberpaw felt her heart skip a beat as the cats crept closer and suddenly she was yanked into darkness.

The desperate cries of the cats faded away. Amberpaw focused on steadying her breathing and looked around. Thankfully she could move freely — she stretched her legs and tried walking, but no matter where she went all she could see was darkness. She broke into a run before she heard a voice.

"Amberpaw," a gentle, she-cat's voice echoed through the darkness. Amberpaw skidded to a stop and looked around.

"Hello?" she called. Nothing. "Where are you?"

No reply. Amberpaw kept walking, the fear that had disappeared after she'd entered the darkness slowly began to return. She kept walking until suddenly she found herself in a valley lit by soft moonlight. She continued padding forward until a shimmery cat came into view.

The she-cat was grey, with a pelt that glimmered with stars. Her eyes reflected the moon that hung in the dark sky above them. She gazed at Amberpaw knowingly for a few minutes before Amberpaw realised who she was.

"Owlbreeze!" Amberpaw burst out. "It's so good to see you! But...why are you here?"

Owlbreeze purred in amusement. "Good to see you too, Amberpaw. But I'm afraid that I have some urged matters to discuss."
