Before Becca could process what he just said and respond, Mr. Schue asked them to be quiet. Ironic since everyone else in the club was talking, but he decided to just call out Becca specifically. The teacher goes back to telling them what the assignment is, "This week I want you to pair up and sing a duet and since you guys all seemed to love our little Defying Gravity Diva-Off, I'm making this a competition! "
The prize? Dinner for two at Breadstix. This announcement got the competition juices flowing through the group all wanted to win.

Rehearsing with the band for their duet, Rachel and Finn just got finished with a performance of Elton John and Kiki Dee's 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart'. Proud of their performance, Finn turns to Rachel, "We're totally going to win this thing."
Rachel looks at him, knowing that he's right. But this is the first time she feels unworthy of it. "Yeah, I know."
As she goes to sit down, Finn still doesn't see what's getting her upset, "Don't be sad, Breadstix has these vegan meatballs. They're... They're okay."
"I'm really a nice person, I'm selfish." Not liking how she's talking about herself, Finn sits down next to her, "The face is I'm only really generous if there is something in it for me."
"I know but I still like you." Finn told her.
Looking at her boyfriend, she can't get how they work. "You're so kind and open... Well it's made me want to be a better person. We have to throw this competition." Finn couldn't help but feel disappointed, he loved Breadstix but Rachel explained, "If we want to win at Nationals, Sam has to win this contest. He has to believe that he belongs and he has to feel like he belongs."
Finn couldn't help but feel impressed at what his girlfriend's doing. It wasn't until he came to terms with something, "Technically you are doing this so we win Nationals which means there is something in it for you. So technically it doesn't count as you doing something nice."
"So I'm just going to ignore what you just said, repeat what I said before which is we have to find a way for me to lose a singing competition so the new kid sticks around."
Finn found this the best time to tell her more about his matchmaking plan. "He can sing with Becca. He seems really into her and I think she likes him too. They win the competition and boom, we get him to stay and Becca gets her first boyfriend."
Rachel looks at her boyfriend, not wanting to burst his bubble but is worried about Becca. "I don't know. I love Becca as much as you do but I don't know if singing with her would make him stay. I don't wanna risk her getting hurt. Do you even know if she likes him? And that he likes her."
"I think so." Finn said, "I know he does but Becca and talking about feelings don't mix."
He was still determined to go with his plan, while Rachel was going in a completely different direction.
