"Ian, I'm so bored!" I sighed, loudly. "Read a book." He replied, bluntly. "I already did!" I whined. "Then, read another one." He said. "I already did!" I repeated.
"Yeah, right."
"But it's true!"
"Oh, yeah? What did you read?"
"This one."
Ian looked up from his book to look at the cover of the book I read. "The Four Maidens? You know that's a children's book, right?" Ian stated.
"Yeah, but I just love it so much. I remember how Dad and Yang used to read it to me every night. I loved it," I explained. "But now I'm so bored!!!"
"Jeez, if you're that bored, then go to Oz. Maybe he'll give you something to do. Maybe even give you a coloring book." Ian said, sarcastically.
"Oh, haha. I'm not a baby." I stated. "Keep telling yourself that, Shrimp." Ian said, and I stuck my tongue out at him. "Could you watch Shadow for me?" I asked.
"Yeah, yeah. As long as he doesn't make me his lunch,"
Ian glanced at him as Shadow was staring at him and he let out a confused whimper. "Good Grimm." He murmured, sarcastically.
I giggled and closed the door behind me before heading to Ozpin's office.
But as soon as I took three steps away from the door, I heard Shadow howl from inside the room as there was scratching at the door.
I went back inside the room and Shadow wagged his waist, happy to see me.
"Yeah, this isn't gonna work. Might as well take him with you. Otherwise, he'll start howling and it'll draw attention. Just make sure nobody sees him."
"Will do, Captain Grumpy!" I said, saluting him. "Hey, I'm not always grumpy. Just when you're-... Just get out of here." Ian said.
I grinned and headed to Ozpin's office with Shadow. "Professor, I'm bored!" I yelled, the second I got off the elevator.
Glynda and Ozpin looked in my direction and a man in a uniform was with them. "Huh? Oh, hehe... Sorry, I didn't know you had company." I giggled, nervously.
"That's quite alright. Lily, this is General Ironwood from Atlas." Ozpin introduced. "Oh! It's nice to meet you!" I greeted.
"A Grimm?" Ironwood said, almost alert. "Yes, but don't worry. Shadow's good, I promise." I reassured him.
"You have a Beowolf as a pet?" Ironwood asked. "Pretty cool, huh?" I grinned. "Impressive." He replied. A small gasp left my lips when Ironwood took out his gun and aimed it at me.
I put my hands up in surrender as Shadow stood on his hind legs, growling at General Ironwood. "James, what are you doing?!" Ozpin said, quickly standing up from his desk.
"Have you lost your mind?!" Glynda yelled. "I just want to test something." Ironwood replied. "T-Test something?" I repeated.
I flinched when he pulled the trigger and Shadow blocked the bullet with his arm, his growling getting more louder and ferocious.
"Hmph. A loyal pet you have there, Lily." Ironwood said while putting his gun back in the holster. "What can I say except for he's protective of me,"
I took Shadow's paw in my arms and smoothed out his fur to assure him that everything was okay. He calmed down a little, but he was still growling at Ironwood quietly.
"But why did you do that, sir? Why shoot me?" I asked Ironwood. "Just to see if my theory was correct, and it is," I rose a brow in confusion.
Theory? What theory did he have that wanted him to pull a gun on me? "Lily, how long have you had Shadow?" Ironwood asked.
"Um... For a couple of months now, I think. I couldn't keep him inside the house since Dad would freak out, hehe. So, I went to the woods every day to visit Shadow. There would be times when he'd sneak around the house to visit me through my window." I explained, giggling.
"Ms. Rose, Ian mentioned that you managed to calm down a King Taijitu. Even touch it." Ozpin mentioned.
"Yeah, that was so cool! I don't even know how I did it! It was like, mind-blowing!" I said, excitedly.
"Do you think you could do it again if a different Grimm were to appear before you?" Ironwood asked. "I dunno. Maybe?" I assumed.
"James, whatever you're thinking, stop now. She's just a child. She doesn't even know how to control her new power." Ozpin said.
"New power?" I repeated. "Yes. Lily, what you're able to do is something beyond imaginable." Glynda mentioned.
"Pfft. Nah." I denied. "Oh, come on, Shrimp. Use that small brain of yours," Ian said as he got off the elevator.
"Not once you didn't wonder why the Grimm don't attack you? Why they're so calm around you?"
"I mean... It crossed my mind a few times, but I didn't much care for it. Maybe the Grimm don't need to attack because they're not provoked." I guessed.
"Sure, that's the reason." Ian replied, sarcastically.
"Hey, Grimm aren't as bad as they seem. Maybe they attack because they want to be safe, too. It's like a fight or flight situation, y'know?" I stated.
"Or maybe it's your gift." Ozpin guessed.
"I don't have a gift!" I said. "Look, can we please just drop the subject? This is all starting to feel weird. I'm going back to my room. It was nice meeting you, General Ironwood."
I left his office with Shadow, and we headed to Emerald Forest.
Ozpin's POV
"She's afraid." Glynda said. "And in denial." James added. "She's still just a kid." I stated. "So is her sister." Glynda replied.
"Yes, but as Lily mentioned, she's not as eager to become a Huntress like her sisters. Maybe she's not ready." I said.
