"THERE'S MORE!" I yell to the boys, "THOMAS!" Teresa yells, and Chuck stays screaming.
We run the past the boys and to the stone door on the other side of the bridge, we were a few feet away when the door opens to the sound of a high pitched beep. "It worked!" Chuck says.
I watched for a moment as a series of more walls rise up into the ceiling, now revealing a more circular door, but also allowing us to fully pass through. We then take a moment to look back at the boys, who didn't seem to be handling things so well.
"Contrer..."
It was the voice again, still pronouncing some foreign word that I did not know the meaning of. Personally, it sounded somewhat beautiful to me, even though I knew that this word could possibly save my life. From my past experience with this voice, I have grown to trust it, no matter who this feminine voice may belong to, I trust her.
"Teresa, go!" Thomas yells once he looks back to us, and I force myself to slowly walk back as Chuck and Teresa make their way to the new door.
I look beyond the boys to just see more grievers piling in, and I knew that if I didn't do something now, then we would all be dead.
I repeat this new word in my head multiple times, trying my best to mesmerize it. Unlike last time, the feminine voice only repeated the word once and hasn't explained it's purpose. Honestly, I was terrified of screwing this up, 'cause who knows what would happen if I did.
But in the end, I push my fear aside, take in one deep breath, and yell out: "CONTRER!"
I waste no time in running towards Chuck and Teresa, who are both staring at me with concerned faces. "Are you crazy?" Teresa whisper-yells, "someone could've watched you throughout that whole thing! It was supposed to stay a secret!"
"Well no one saw me, right?" I say with a smile, and Teresa rolls her eyes.
"I watched them the whole time, none of them looked at you." Chuck reassured.
"See? The other boys were too focused on not dying, I just bought them some time." I asserted.
"What does the word even do? Or mean?" Teresa questions, I shrug my shoulders in response. "You don't know?!" She whisper-yells, "it saved me last time, didn't it?" I retaliate, and she rolls her eyes once again.
"What the hell?" I suddenly hear one of the boys say, and I quickly turn my head to see that the two grievers, who were originally fighting the boys, had started to fight each other.
Contrer...it turns them against each other.
"Okay, enough of this. We have to open this door!" Teresa then yells, and I immediately turn my attention back to our original plan. The boys continue to fight the remaining grievers.
I begin to tug on one side of the rectangular door, which was opposite from the circular one. Hoping that it would move, but it never does. I look over to see Teresa and Chuck doing the same thing. "How the hell does this open?" I question worriedly.
Then almost immediately, a red circular screen appears on the door. It was encased with a blue outline, a smaller map of the maze, and eight white numbers that had begun to float around the red circular screen.
Teresa suddenly runs back to the bridge, "Thomas! There's a code, eight numbers!"
My first thought was putting the numbers in numerical order, but WICKED would be too smart to do something like that.
I then begin to watch Thomas and Minho, who were yelling at each other over the sound of the grievers. However I was too far away from them to actually listen in on what they were saying.
"Seven!" Teresa suddenly yells, and I finally caught on to what Thomas and Minho were talking about. They know the code.
I quickly turn around and find the number seven floating around the screen, I press on it and it immediately moves to the center of the screen. It was working, it was actually working.
"One!"
"Five!"
"Two!"
"Six!"
"Four!"
Teresa suddenly stops yelling out the numbers and I look back to see that Minho was trapped under a griever, "Minho!" I yell out to him, even though I knew that I couldn't save him.
Jeff then stabs his own spear into the griever that was pinning Minho down, which had luckily allowed him to crawl out to safety. But then I watched in horror as Jeff was flung back behind the griever, where the only thing that confirmed his death was his excruciating screams.
We lost two.
It takes me a second or two to blink back into reality, and then I turn back to the red screen.
"Eight!"
"Three!"
There were no more numbers left, and I watch as the red screen suddenly turns green, with the word COMPLETE centered in the middle of it all.
"We got it!" I yell to the boys, "the door opened!"
I then watch as the doors, which were previously in the ceiling, start falling back down and crushing the grievers. One...by...one.
There was one griever left, only a few feet away from the group when Thomas had suddenly thrown his spear, hitting the griever right in the face and allowing the door to fully kill it.
Everyone was stunned, frozen in place, out of breath, and then the circular door shut.
Trapping us in darkness.
Until there was a creak, and then there was light.
