Chapter 9. First strike

Bellamy POV

I was restless the whole night,  unable to sleep.  I finally gave up right before dawn and decided to check on Dante.  Clarke stirred.

"Where are you going?" She asked sleepily.

"To check on Dante, go back to sleep."

"Ok"

I stopped to get some water.  I was really thirsty.  Then, as I slowly made my way to the med bay, I realized I was cold.  I shivered as I entered.

Andu and Abby had managed to keep Dante alive, though he was still unconcious.  As Abby and I were talking, she got a strange look of concern on her face.  "Bellamy are you allright?"

During the conversation I was getting hotter and hotter, and sweat started to drip down my forehead.  I was starting to feel dizzy.  When Abby spoke, I tried to answer but nothing came out.  The last thing I remember was seeing Abby's look of concern ,  then horror as she and Andu tried to catch me before I hit the ground. 

"Bellamy!!!"

Clarke POV

After Bellamy left, I decided to get up and follow him to the med bay.  He had been restless all night.

I got dressed quickly and followed.  As I walked through the door I heard mom and Andu yell, "Bellamy!!"

I run in and my mom and are Andu trying to get Bellamy on a table, he is shivering uncontrollably, and covered with sweat.  As I step closer, I notice his eyes are bloodshot and so red you would think they were bleeding.

"Bellamy! Oh my gosh, mom what is wrong with him?!" I asked fearfully.

"It is the Sleeping fever"  Andu answers immediately.  He will be fine, but we must act quickly before the whole camp is infected."

"Clarke"my mom says,  "you need to get out of  here.

"No, Clarke will be immune due to the potion"  Andu responded.  "This is the first attack from the  Grounder rebels.  Dante must have been the carrier. We must send Lincoln to warn Lexa at once and prepare more potion to treat the others."

Katie stepped into the med bay and mom immediately sent her for Lincoln.

"What do we do now?"  I asked, "what is this?"

"This sickness is a virus, a weapon. They infect someone then release them to the people they want to attack.  The virus spreads quickly,  after the third day when everyone is weak, they will attack and no one has the strength to defend themselves.  We need to prepare to defend at once, we have less then two days."

My mind started racing.

Lincoln walks in with Octavia and Andu hands him some herbs. "The Sleeping fever is here!  You and Octavia drink the potion to protect yourselves at once, then Lincoln you must warn Lexa.  Octavia,  you know the herbs we need, take Katie and gather them quickly. Everyone must drink this potion at once.  It may not prevent illness in everyone but it will help.  The more we drink it the better we will be."Andu finished in a rush.  "And Lincoln?"  He paused.  "Be on your guard around Nox.."  he nodded and left.

Andu looked at me.   "Don't worry Bellamy will be fine.  I will tend to him, be strong, get your mother some tonic and prepare your people for what is to come."

We both sped into action at once.

After I gave my mom  her potion, she took some to  Kane and spread the word to have everyone assemble at the bonfire.   I went to find Raven and Monty in the weapons area.

Of coarse Finn would be there too.

"Raven, how are we on bullets?"  I asked without preamble.

"We are good to go.   After that grounder stumbled in yesterday I thought we better make some more just in case.  I got Finn and Monty here helping." 

"Awesome"  I answered thinking Raven could always be counted on. "Cuz we are going to need them.  Short version.  We may be under attack in less than two days.  Bellamy is down with some virus the grounders use before an attack. So we are going to need anything you've got in that brain of yours to defend ourselves.  Lincoln is on his way to get Lexa.  All three of you need to drink this herbal tea mom is fixing for the whole camp so we all don't come down with it!"

"Don't worry Clarke I got this. C'mon boys lets get moving."

10 minutes later,  everyone had been told and they were lining up to get some of the potion.  I took this moment to speak to Kane and mom.

"Raven is good on bullets and ammo, but we are gonna need all of our resources.   Who is good at archery, spears and hand to hand?" I asked Kane. "We can't count on Bellamy  to take charge of defence now.  Can you handle battle strategy with, Miller and Murphy and let Raven know what you need?"

Kane nodded.  "Don't worry Clarke, I'll handle this.  You need to coordinate with Lexa and her people."

This was the first strike by the Grounder rebels.  The rest of the day was spent in preparation, because who knew what tomorrow would bring?
