Shadows crept over a small clearing, temporarily shading a glistening pool of water. Wind gently brushed past the trees and created a soft humming sound. The newly full moon shone brightly from it's place up in the dim sky. The shadows slowly began to be replaced with moonlight. The pool glinted with the reflection of tiny, distant stars.

A cat stepped out of the bushes and into the clearing, her grey pelt turning to silver in the soft moonlight. Sehe approached the pool cautiously, green eyes flashing. A slight breeze carried along with scent of another cat.

The grey she-cat crouched and prepared to fight. The bushes rustled and a brown tabby stepped out of the undergrowth. He began to pad forward slowly, amber eyes scanning the clearing. When his eyes raked over the grey she-cat, he paused and growled softly. The grey she-cat instantly relaxed.

"Owlbreeze," the tabby hissed through gritted teeth. "I didn't know that you would come here tonight."

"We're having a gathering of SpiritClan members," the grey she-cat replied calmly. "Riverstar has chosen me to attend in her honour, to select a cat to be apart of the prophecy. Did she choose you as well, Bramblefoot, or have you come on your own accord?"

"She chose me," Bramblefoot meowed. "Do you know of the other two cats chosen to attend tonight?"

"No," Owlbreeze answered truthfully. Bramblefoot padded forward to sit down beside her, and together they waited for the last two cats to arrive. Finally, just when Owlbreeze was beginning to wonder if they were even coming at all, suddenly two cats appeared out of the bushes. One was a black-and-white tom, and the other a small ginger tabby she-cat. Owlbreeze wondered why the ginger tabby was so small.

"Bouncetail," Owlbreeze greeted the newcomers. "It's nice to see you here tonight."

"I am grateful to be here, Owlbreeze," the black-and-white tom replied, flicking his tail in the direction of the ginger tabby. "This here is my apprentice, Applepaw."

The ginger she-cat smiled shyly at Owlbreeze and Bramblefoot. Now Owlbreeze understood why the she-cat was so small — the tabby was only an apprentice!

"Applepaw?" Bramblefoot exclaimed. "You brought an apprentice to choose the four prophecy cats?"

Applepaw looked down at her paws uncomfortably, green eyes unhappy. Bouncetail touched his white tail tip to his apprentice's shoulder reassuringly, the turned his cold blue eyes to Bramblefoot.

"For you information, Bramblefoot," he hissed. "Applepaw here died trying to save me, her mentor. Was your apprentice that loyal?"

Bramblefoot narrowed his eyes. "Why is the apprentice here anyways?"

"The apprentice has a name," Bouncetail snapped. "And Rainstar selected her, so you are questioning the choice of our great leader herself when you ask that."

"Whatever," Bramblefoot muttered. "Can we just choose the four prophecy cats already?"

"Are there any rules?" Applepaw asked her mentor keenly.

"Is the cat is a kit or has not yet been born, then it would be easier to give them the prophecy powers," Bouncetail explained, all signs of aggression gone. He and Applepaw padded forward to sit down beside the pool.
