"...police have spent the day looking for a killer on the run. Not much is known about the murderer of the Thompson family, who, as the reports claim have been slaughtered and had their kidneys stolen. Janelle is currently at the crime scene together with the neighbors of the Thompson family-"

Turning off the radio the girl sat back in her chair, eyes glued to the books in front of her. As a college student majoring in English, (Y/N) liked to listen to her radio mostly to have it as a background noise while studying. She stared at the books and the books stared back, but her thoughts were no longer focused on the things she had to study.

Murder, such a cruel way of someone's life to end.

The girl had heard a fair share of gruesome murders, whether It'd be from the books she read or from those true crime documentaries she occasionally liked to watch, however this had been the first time she would hear it coming from her local news station.

(Y/N) couldn't help but shiver at the thoughts occupying her mind, knowing how close the Thompson family was to her own apartment and what would happen if the killer came back. The neighborhood they lived in were merely fifteen minutes away from her by a bus, of course she's going to be worried!

Taking her phone from the nightstand near her table, she decided to take her mind off of things and call her friend. Dialing the number, she relaxed into the chair and waited to hear his voice.

"Never took you for someone who calls people." The boy said from the other side of the line – she could feel him smiling.

"Hey Oli, I know, but I needed someone to keep me company for a while." He could hear the slight tremble in her voice, his demeanor instantly changing to worry.

"What happened? Did you get hurt? Should I call some-" she interrupted him, "No, no, I'm fine. A murder happened in the city so I just came to the conclusion that I was next on the list apparently and decided to call you to calm my nerves."

A sigh could be heard from the phone, making the girl laugh slightly.

"You know, next time you call me sounding like this, no matter the severity of the situation, I will most definitely not believe that it's something serious. You scared me."

(Y/N) could already feel her nerves calming, now getting up and walking around her room as she was speaking to her friend, "I'm sorry Oli, it was just so unsettling to hear..." she continued and explained the details of her worries. The call would only stretch for another thirty minutes, in which she has finally fully calmed down.

"In conclusion, lock your doors and windows, if you're going home late ask a friend to escort you and if there's no one, call me. Not like I'm sitting at home doing commissions most of the time." The boy said, shifting his tone from a serious to a humorous one, mocking his own work hours.

"Moving on from that, have you met your stranger that you've been fantasizing so long about?" he spoke teasingly.

"I haven't even written the letter Oliver. I was planning to but there was so much work to do, and now with this happening I don't even think it's a smart idea.." (Y/N) talked, her voice toning down to a whisper at the end.

"Oh come on, it's such a cute idea, and besides what are the chances of an actual murderer seeing a random letter and responding, he'd be stupid to do such a thing considering he's on the run. Obviously you won't go outside in the middle of the night to place a letter somewhere, and I don't think you're going to get murdered in the morning while everyone is rushing to work." he concluded, making (Y/N) nod her head subconsciously.

"Right...I guess you do have a point."

"Of course I do. Now go and write that letter."

The call soon came to an end. (Y/N) sat back into her chair and took an empty paper and a pen. She thought about it again for a minute and decided to just go with it, thinking how "nothing could go wrong." Oliver's been friends with her since they were kids and she knew his judgements would rarely end up being false. He was right, it could be a fun distraction from everything - if anyone responds that is.

"Dear stranger,

I've always wanted to write a letter to someone I've never known. The idea of just writing down my thoughts and leaving the letter for someone to find might sound idiotic, but having someone respond and bond with a person that you know nothing basic about seems like an adventure. I can know your darkest secrets but never know your name, your most embarrassing moments but not how you look.  If you're up for it, you'll have a paper underneath this one, and a pen to write back.Worry not, I most definitely will find your response as long as you leave it at the same place. Take my letter with you, it could stay as a sweet memory of our anonymous friendship. So, stranger, tell me how was your day?"
