Chapter 7 More Trouble

Clark POV

As we made our way to the med bay, most people had returned to their jobs, but already you could hear the whispers as we walked by. 

My face was hot in a combination of embarassment and anger at Finn.

Bellamy had his hand at my elbow to steady me over the uneven ground.  I was growing more and more clumsy with each passing day and my mom had warned it would only increase as my stomach grew.  As the whispers continued.  I heard Bellamy bark with authority.

"Allright! Get back to work!   We will update you tonight!"

I glanced at him gratefully.

As we stepped in the med bay, mom and Kane were standing by the grounders table and Katie was tending to Finn's cheek, while Raven stood by watching.

Raven and I have a strange relationship.  I slept with Finn before I knew about her, and she slept with Bellamy before we had admitted our feelings for each other. 

We don't hate each other, but we aren't best buds either.  She respects my leadership skills,  and I respect her abilities.   With the exception of Finn, the girl is smart, as long as she stays away from Bellamy I thought to myself.

We stood back a moment as my mom and Kane came over to us.  "Well he is out for now, he has lost a lot of blood, what happened Clarke?"

I shook my head. "He just came out of nowhere and fell,  muttering something about trouble and north.  Octavia went to let Lexa know in case it is one of her people.  She should be here soon."

My mom nodded towards Finn as she eyed Bellamy's lip. "Care to tell me about that?"

I shook my head, "Later" I breathed.

Octavia poked her head in to let us know Lexa was coming.  A moment later Lexa entered and walked over to us and nodded in greeting.  "Where is he?"  She asked.

My mom gestured towards the wall and answered. "There, he's still out cold."

As Lexa walked closer to get a look at his face, we all heard her inhale sharply.

"Dante..?"

"Do you know him?"  I asked

"Yes, he is the father of Kaia...my daughter"

She looked quickly at my mother.  "Will he live?  He has been missing for almost  8 months.  We thought him dead." Lexa breathed incredulously.

My mother replied cautiously.  "He has lost a lot of blood and looks half starved. If he survives the night his chances will be better."

"Please"  Lexa almost begged, "do all you can for him.   We have to know what has happened!"    As she finished speaking, her composure returned and she stepped outside.

I squeezed Bellamy's hand and followed her.  I found her giving orders to Octavia,  Lincoln and Indra.  As I approached, the others pulled back and allowed me a moment with Lexa.

"Clarke.  Walk with me a moment."

As I fell into step beside her Indra followed at a distance to give us privacy.

"Dante and I were bound to each other  for 6 seasons.  He fought beside me and helped me run our people. Our daughter is 5 seasons old and has missed him a great deal."  She paused and if not for the catch at the end of her voice,  I would not have known how much it took for her to stay in contol.  "He had gone out with a hunting crew.  There were three of them.  We sent out a scouting party, but they were never found.  We assumed they were dead."  She met my eyes.  "We will have scouts out at the northern perimeter, make sure your people are on guard too.  This could be trouble, but until Dante can tell us what happened.."  she paused. 

I squeezed her shoulder, "We will do all we can." She nodded.

"I will leave Lincoln and Octavia,  here for the night.  They have orders to fetch me if anything happens,  or if you need something.  Andu will send some herbs to help restore the blood"  Lexa started to return to her village,  but turned to look at me.  "Clarke, be prepared.  This could be more trouble."  And with those words ringing in my ears she left.

Bellamy POV

Everyone was restless.  News of the wounded grounder had spread as well as  whispers that Clarke was pregnant with my baby.  I smiled in spite of myself.

We needed to calm everyone down and fast.  Kane and Abby agreed that we should address everyone tonight at the evening meal.  I was returing to work on the shelters when I ran into the spacewalker.  Raven was just leaving him when she spotted me.

"Are you boys going to behave?" She said, shifting her gaze back and forth between us.  "We don't have time for the drama."

It amused  me that when she landed on the word drama her eyes were on Finn.  "As longs as stays out of my business we're cool"

"Finn?"  She prompted

"Yeah. Ok"  He replied quickly

She seemed satisfied but as she brushed passed me she muttered, "Don't kill him, huh?" Too low for Finn to hear.  As I started to walk past Finn, he stopped me.

"Bellamy,  if you hurt her I will kill you."

I paused to look at him, noting that Raven had paused a few feet away watching us.  Seeing this, my anger at Finn evaporated as I realized he was the type of guy who was never satisfied with what he had.  We were completely different men.

"Finn, she stopped being your concern when you lied to her.   Now give it a rest and stay out of our business. "  I said pointedly.  "Now get back to work!"

I felt his eyes in my back as I kept walking.
