A Treaty of Queens had long ago secured peace across the Northern World, ending a gory and animalistic Ancient War. This Treaty ensured mutual prosperity between 5 Kingdoms: Amberak, Ebeon, Farpass, Nyssea and Kinraur.
An amicable and diplomatic trade deal brought about by the legendary intelligence of Queen Lyssandre of Amberak, her alliance with the other 4 Queens showed to all the benefit of a woman's rule. So for many years after this, all the Kingdoms became the Queendoms of the North, and a Golden Age of Peace bloomed.
Yet as the years passed, it seemed time dulled the nations' memory to the bloodshed of a king's rule, and all but Amberak once again became Kingdoms. Now, centuries on, a great loss has struck the Queendom of Amberak; Queen Amira has died before she could bear a Princess as heir, leaving behind only her husband, King Tiberius, and son, Prince Toren.
Thus, an ancient clause of the Treaty which bound the Northern Nations was enacted...
The 4 neighbouring Kingdoms would nominate 1 girl each, and these 4 girls would be put through a series of gruelling trials, both physical and mental in nature, as a means of competition. The victor of these trials would be chosen as the next Queen of Amberak; in order to secure this choice as a peaceful transition of power, the Prince of Amberak would then rule as King in whichever nation the future Queen hailed from.
Not only would this event be a meeting of great historical significance to all 5 Kingdoms, but it would also be seen as an event ripe with possibility to review old partnerships and create new trade deals. Thus, each girl would be joined by an entourage of politicians, bodyguards and advisors.
But King Tiberius holds a deadly secret close to his heart, a secret that will propel his actions in the coming weeks. This secret could not only be the downfall of Amberak as a nation, but could also be what finally fractures the crumbling Treaty of Queens, spiralling the Northern Nations into war once again.
Can the 4 girls unravel the dark and twisted secrets inside Amberak before it's too late? Or will the trials simply take up too much of their focus?
