"There is no presentation?!"
For a few moments you had to process this information, but when you had gotten over the initial shock, realization started to dawn on you.
When you had told your friends at the cooking club about the assignment, they were the ones who brought up the subject of a presentation. Fujikawa had come with the idea of the chocolates and that had gotten you so excited that you had went with it.
But now you recalled that your teacher had never mentioned anything about doing a presentation.
You mentally kicked yourself for getting ahead of yourself and inconveniencing Tendou along the way. When you turned to look at him, however, he started laughing as soon as your eyes met his.
"I'm sorry." He said in between laughing fits as he placed one hand on your shoulder for support. "You were so serious about it, you worked so hard. I just can't."
You were glad that he wasn't angry at you at least, but he could tone it down a little.
Scratch that. He could tone it down a lot.
Curious students started asking what was going on and you would have preferred if this could just be overlooked so you didn't have to embarrass yourself in front of everyone.
Fortunately, the arrival of your homeroom teacher put a stop to everything as everyone went to sit down and your first class started.
You awkwardly put the bag containing the chocolates next to your desk, wondering what you were going to do with that many sweets. You could definitely give some to your friends during lunch break, but that still left you with a lot of them.
When the second period started your teacher called everyone to the front in the assigned pairs to hand in your assignments. There was a tense moment when the guy sitting behind you and the girl he was paired with were called. It seemed the girl had done all the work and the only thing he did was pick the country. Voices were raised and the teacher finally had to put a stop to it, telling them she would talk with them both after class.
After them, it was yours and Tendou's turn to go to the front. He nudged you and told you to bring the 'goods' with you and you reluctantly did as he said.
"Did you manage to get everything done without complications?" The teacher asked as if a discussion hadn't just happened in front of her desk.
Tendou couldn't contain a chuckle. "Everything and more, I would say."
He explained the situation and by the end, even the teacher couldn't contain a hearty laugh. Tendou reached into the paper bag and handed her one of the packets of pralines.
"Even though there is obviously not going to be a presentation, can we still hand these out?" He asked. "It would be a shame to let all of her hard work go to waste."
Your teacher agreed and you both quickly made a round of the classroom.
Tendou occasionally added a "Courtesy of the overachiever." and while he said it jokingly, you couldn't but nudge him with your elbow every time he did.
Once you made it back to your seats he leaned over and in a subdued voice told you: "I'm so glad we don't have to do a presentation though."
"You did just fine at my place." You assured him.
"It still scared the heck out of me." He admitted and while you were bummed about not being able to do the presentation, you were happy for him at least.
The next few weeks passed by as normal. Your parents came back from their business trips and you resumed your usual rhythm.
Your grades for your assignment were very good. Tendou's parents were elated and had told him he should study with you more.
