On the side is Emeric, who is played by Johnny Depp! :)
I awoke with my arms locked around something small. I smiled with my eyes still closed.
I decided to open them, not too long after that. Emery was snoring softly, his back pressed against my chest. I pulled him closer and let his pitch hair tickle my face.
He stirred slightly but remained asleep, making me beam. I closed my eyes, trying to go back to sleep. I frowned, disappointed that it wasn’t working.
I slowly moved away from Emery and climbed out of bed, careful not to wake him up. He snored softly and stirred, turning over. I cautiously opened the door and slipped out. I closed it gently.
The smell of bacon and waffles wafted through my nose. My feet padded against the hardwood floor as I made my way to the stairs. The basement door was still shut but I could hear my mother’s sweet singing through the door.
I smirked as I walked up the tan steps and slipped through the door at the top. I took a deep breath, deciding what to do next. I walked to the kitchen and saw my mom spinning in circles in some sort of dance. I twiddled my fingers together and looked down at the floor. “Mom?”
She jumped slightly and gave me a chuckle. “Hey, darlin’. Emery not up yet?”
I shook my head and kicked my feet gently.
“No, uhm, can I talk to you about something?”
She nodded and gnawed on a piece of crisp bacon. Her green eyes glowed with interest as she leaned on the counter top. I took a deep breath and looked her in the eyes.
“I’m gay.” I said flat out, plain and simple. She opened her mouth to speak and moved away from the counter. I raised a hand to silence her.
“Look, I don’t care if you’re mad at me or if you hate me but you can’t change anything. I have a boyfriend and I love him more than anything. If you forbid me from seeing him, I won’t hesitate to go behind your back to be with him anyway. He’s all I think about, all I want. If you can’t accept that, that’s not my problem. I won’t ever stop loving him.” I said strongly. I stood my ground, wanting nothing more than for her to be fine. She sighed.
“Who is it? Who’s your boyfriend?”
I took another deep breath, squeezing my hands into fists, then releasing them. “Emery.”
She nodded and gave me a half smile.
“Hunny, why’d you think I was going to be mad at you?” She asked, crossing her arms and leaning on the table again. Her eyes twinkled but she avoided my gaze. I shrugged and gave her a look.
“Well, since you and dad were always so religious, I figured you wouldn’t want anything to do with me anymore. Hell, you two wouldn’t even let me hang out with kids in middle school that you even thought looked gay.” I muttered. I stared at the ground and rocked back and forth on my toes, feeling like a small child who just got in trouble. My mother sighed and looked away.
“Your father was the one who was so religious. Truth is I have nothing against gays. Actually, my brother was gay.” She said softly. I jerked my head up, my brown hair bouncing.
“Mom, you don’t have a brother.”
She raised her hand up to her mouth and looked away from me. She choked back a sob, giving me a shaky breath. “Yes I do. I haven’t talked to him in I don’t even know how many years.”
I took a step forward. “How come I never knew about this?”
“Your father always seemed fine with him; they even hung out together quite a few times. Once we got married though, your father wouldn’t let my brother and I speak. He tried calling me but I never answered. We eventually stopped talking all together. Even once your father left us, I still didn’t call him. I don’t even know where he is anymore.” My mother sobbed. I took a step forward but didn’t go any further.
“Why didn’t you tell me about this?” I asked, lowering my head.
“Your father didn’t want you to know and I didn’t have the guts to do anything about it.” She whimpered. I looked up to see Collin, still in his pajamas, with his arms around my mother, holding her close.
My heart softened, seeing her with him. He stared down at her, his dark, midnight hair, falling in his face. He only showed his concern for her. It made me kind of glad my dad had left. If he didn’t, my mother never would have gone out with Collin and became happy again.
“Maybe it’s time to call him, love.” Collin whispered in her ear. He looked up at me with a sad smile.
“I’m sorry, Beck. I couldn’t help but over hear. I’m really happy for you.” He said, holding my mother even tighter. I nodded and watched her cry over her long lost brother. “Anya, please call him. I would love to meet him and I’m sure Beck would to as well.”
My mother looked to me with tears in her red, puffy eyes. I nodded for encouragement. She looked up to Collin one last time before reaching for a phone that sat on the charge in the counter. She pressed a button and pressed it to her ear. Collin swayed with her in his arms.
“Mom? Hey, it’s Anya. I just wanted to know if you had Emeric’s number.” She paused. Her eyes went wide. She pushed herself out of Collin’s arms and ran around scrambling for something. She couldn’t find it and eventually just grabbed a pen off the fridge. She balanced the phone between her chin and shoulder and wrote down a number on her hand. “Thank you. Thank you so much. I have to go, love you, bye!”
She hung up and immediately dialed the other number. She pressed it to her ear nervously and waited. Collin moved to stand beside her and I leaned on the counter top.
“Emeric? It’s me, Anya.” She stopped. Her hand covered her mouth; tears fell down her porcelain cheeks again like a waterfall. “I miss you to.”
I couldn’t help but smile as my mother balled to her brother. I gave Collin a look, who nodded and beamed. I left them alone, running down the stairs to my room. I threw the door open and jumped on my bed, immediately cuddling Emery who was still under the covers.
I nuzzled into his neck. His starlight eyes fluttered open as he stretched like a cat. He stretched into my chest and closed one eyes. “Ugh, what time is it?”
I rolled my eyes and beamed, kissing him all over his face. “I told my mom.”
Both his eyes shot open. He jumped in my arms slightly and hopped up. “What? When?”
I grinned wide. “This morning. She was fine with it. Turns out, my uncle is gay to.”
He smiled wide and jumped on top of me, tackling me in a hug. I wound my arms around his sweet hips. I hugged him close, feeling his warm chest against mine. I closed my eyes and kissed his lips gently.
He pulled back and winked. “I love you so much.”
“I love you too.” I tackled him onto the bed and littered his jaw and neck with kisses.
