McKenna took a sip of her drink, pondering her answer. "Ecology."
Okay, I was impressed. "Geology."
"You know your sciences," I commented.
She just smiled at me.
"Zoology," I stated, raising an eyebrow at her.
She let out a frustrated sigh.
"Botany," I added.
"You're a fucker Lee Adams."
I couldn't help but laugh.
"I don't like these games."
"Because I'm nice, I'll give my question to you."
"I don't want your charity question. Ask me."
She was so stubborn. It was cute.
"My question is, what would you like to ask me?"
She chuckled, taking another sip of her drink. "I'll give you an easy one."
"I appreciate that."
"Have you had a girlfriend before?"
I could feel my heart physically constrict in my chest.
I was silent a few moments, before letting out a sigh.
I forced her answer my questions. I had to answer hers too.
"What was her name?"
"That's two questions," I declined. "You have to win first."
McKenna raised an eyebrow, but didn't press any further.
And it was my turn to pick the challenge.
But we reached the park first, and I led her over to a clearing in the grass, the two of us taking our seats.
McKenna took a seat in front of me, taking a bite of her Chinese food. "What challenge do you have for me Mr. Adams?"
"Actually," I said, reaching into my back pocket and pulling out a deck of cards. "I have a game of luck. That way it makes it a little easier."
"What are we playing?" McKenna asked, before taking another bite of her food.
"Have you ever played 21 before?"
She chuckled as I dealt the cards.
She ended up winning that hand.
"Tell me about your previous girlfriend."
Why did I see that coming?
"That's not a question," I stated, indifferently.
I didn't want to talk about Polly.
No part of me ever wanted to talk about her again.
McKenna let out a sigh, trying to think of how to formulate her statement into a question.
"What was your previous girlfriend like?" McKenna finally asked.
"She was blonde, and popular, and pretty much everything that I don't want in a girl."
McKenna's eyes widened in surprise.
