"Do you think about me when the crowd is gone?

It used to be so easy, you and me

I could be the one to make you feel that way

I could be the one to set you free"

He smiled his eyes sparkling with warmth. “I want to talk about you.”

I furrowed my eyebrows “umm…well.”

Seriously what does he expect me to say?!

“What about me..?” I answered hesitantly walking on eggshells.

Demyan gave a laugh at my cautious approach and then his expression eased into a serious one.

“Tell me why you let yourself be auctioned off.”

I pondered it a tad making sure to put the words in a way that made sense. “My family needs the money.”

His handsome brow furrowed in thought.

“You work all the time though, so there must me more than that” his eyebrow raised as his keen green eyes looked at me interested.

I swallowed clenching my hands together. Talking about home life never really came easily to me because of all the emotions that would flow through me and take hold of me.

I was about to say something as the silence stretched longer and longer but then she opened her small trembling mouth pushing a strand of golden hair from her face.

“Well my father left us a decade back for a woman...with one of the oldest of professions, a hooker."

After she bit her plumb rosy lip determining her words she continued;

“He-he was always a bad gambler but after he left us, it just got worse and worse.” She took a moment to take a shaky breath and then continued.

“So he fell into the palm of the devil, not to mention the loan sharks. Two years ago he passed away, Drunk driving, he drove right off the side of the- of thecliff.” Her small fist was clenched shaking as she was staring with ghost eyes at the couch. Her lips were pressed into a thin line.

In the tone of an after thought as if to herself, she said “My mom was so heart broken when she heard, she had to be sent to the hospital for a suicide attempt, so I was the one who had to identify the body, Sure enough, it was my father.”

She sighed sounding weary beyond her years, her mouth giving a fake small smile.

“Because he died, the responsibility of paying off the debt was left to me and my family.”
