Chapter Twenty Four- Giddy Kisses

Niall's POV:

"Are you stupid?" Barbara asked, looking at me with disbelief. I rolled my eyes at her and she got even more annoyed. "Do you even realize how dumb you've acted?" She stood up from the room pacing back and fourth in front of me. Mum had left, thinking it would be nice for me and Barbara to "bond" and work this issue out.

"Niall, you just screwed up so badly.." She trailed off, running her hand through her long brown hair.

"I know I screwed up, I always screw up." I stated, staring ahead at the wall rather than looking anywhere else. I think it was somewhere around 3 A.M. I dunno, kinda stopped caring after a while.

"Okay so let me get this straight," Barbara started, while she pinched the bridge of her nose. "You were best friends with this girl, basically led her on, came back and won her over again. Only for you to ditch her for some dumb hook up? Not only that, but you failed to mention this to me. How could you be such a jerk? I could've helped you!" When she was towards the end of her rant she was screaming at me, and I suddenly stood up to face her.

"Don't you dare go around accusing me about anything with my past! You don't know who I was and you sure as hell don't know who I am. It's complete bullshit that you think you would've offered to help me "had you known" about Charlotte. And don't try to make this out to be something it's not. I care about her. She's my friend, just my friend."

Barbara sighed and sat down on the sofa shaking her head.

I almost feel kind of bad for yelling at her.

"I get that she's your friend, Niall. I notice the way you look at her and how happy you got when all of your family liked her. I would've helped you had I known, because you deserve to be happy. You deserve a chance at happiness and she could be it." Her eyes were watery and she looked like she was about to cry.

"How can you say that when you were the one who caused me to be like this?" I shook my head and walked away from her, up the stairs. Leaving her to take care of herself for the night.

The next night

I threw a paper airplane at Charlotte's window, but she didn't answer. The lights in her room were completely off, and the window and curtains were closed shut. I hadn't seen her at all the whole day.

I guess I deserved this, but c'mon, it's not like we were anything right?

Sighing I jumped on my bed and continued to look out my window, watching the stars appear in the sky and hoping to see some kind of sign from Charlotte.

Two days later

I was sitting on the steps of my porch when I first saw her. She was with her dumb friend Grant and he had his arm around her while they walked. I got up, and practically ran over to them. Charlotte refused to look at me, just like she had done for the past three days in a row.

I could overhear Grant asking her if she wanted for him to get rid of me. Yeah, right. She whispered a "no" faintly, and it brought such a genuine smile to my face.

"Can I talk you?" I asked quietly, completely ignoring Grant.

I looked at Grant coldly, and he took the message to leave. I enwrapped her hand in mine and took her to sit on the porch.

When we sat down on the swing she looked at our hands. She looked like she was studying them, and I noticed how beautiful she was.

Charlotte was different, that's for sure.

"Before I can say anything else, please just let me do this."

I leaned in slowly, and gently brushed our lips together before pushing into a real kiss. I can't tell you what it was like, but I can tell you that when I felt her smile against my lips it made me smile too.

And I for once felt happy and slightly- just a little bit giddy.
