It was dawn, the windows were foggy and the air was humid. Water dribbled off the sides of rooftops. The clouds were hidden by the thick layer of mist throughout the sky. I always loved seeing this kind of weather depending on my mood.
Everyone seemed tired in the cafeteria. I didn't blame them for disliking the foggy atmosphere. Not everybody enjoyed rain like I did. I had to stay optimistic though, to keep everyone working and not allowing anyone to drag their feet. There was a lot to do and I didn't want to let anyone get behind.
Many people, including myself, were getting tired of the taste of bread. Not that it was bad, the taste was just getting old. I wanted to visit the farm to see how the crops were holding up. I couldn't wait to have the flavor of vegetables and fruit in my mouth. I never liked meat very much, so I wasn't as miserable as others about the lack of meat.
I was leaving the cafeteria to stop by the farmstead when all of a sudden, the horn sounded. The last thing I wanted to do was battle more Titans but I had to do it, it was my job as a scout. I ran through the town trying to locate any Titans inside the fog. I couldn't see anything, not even a 12 meter titan if there was one. Unable to see my surroundings, I stopped moving. Suddenly, a Titan came up behind me and grabbed me tightly. I was in shock, how did I not see it? It was right behind me. I tried to loosen its grip but it was no good.
It began to pull me towards its mouth slowly and I got stubborn. How pathetic would it be if I died like this? I thought. It's mouth dragged closer and my legs were heading first. Once I was in reach, I kicked its jaw as hard as I could, knocking out a tooth. It lost its grasp on me and I fell to the ground.
Unfortunately, I landed on my ankle and was unable to walk. I watched as the Titan drew closer to me. Did I seriously put all of that effort in for nothing? I attempted to walk, knowing my condition and was not surprised with the outcome. My foot gave in and I fell to the ground letting out a wail.
What was I supposed to do? I placed my middle finger and thumb together to snap. Before I got the chance to save myself, Levi zoomed in and snatched me away from the situation I was in. I looked up at his concentrated face and felt a wave of relief throughout my body. He was always there at the perfect timing whenever I needed him. Whether that was fighting these horrid monsters, talking about our lives/past trauma, or anything else. I really treasured and admired him in so many ways. It was almost like he was perfect. Everyone has flaws, of course. But his were nothing compared to all of the good things about him.
I could always count on Levi, no matter what. But I didn't want to rely on him though, I didn't want to seem like the damsel in distress like I used to be. That was always my nickname, and I was done with it. I knew that one day I could prove to everyone how strong I was, how powerful I could be.
When we arrived at a safer place, Levi set me on top of a rooftop. "How come I always find you in situations like these," He asked jokingly.
"I'm sorry, I couldn't see through the fog," I replied with my hand on my head.
"You should rest your leg, you can't fight if you're injured. I mean, you can try, but you wouldn't be very successful."
"I'll fight even if I have a sprained ankle or whatever this is. I gave my life to the kingdom and I'm willing to fight til I die," He reached out his hand to pull me onto my feet. I took his hand and tugged myself up. The ground pressed against my ankle and I quietly whimpered. I could see the sympathy in his eyes.
I used my equipment and swung myself into the air. I continued to push through and killed more Titans. Suddenly, I bumped into Armin and Eren during the process. They were with a few other people with them. "Have you seen Thomas?" They asked.
"Why, is everything alright?" I interrogated.
"We don't even know... we can't find him anywhere." Armin said, losing courage.
"It's okay, we'll find him." I said. Instantly, a horrific giant peeked around the corner. It had a smirk on its face as Thomas dangled out of its mouth. The look of terror filled our eyes and the feeling of helpless overtook us as we just stood there, watching our friend get devoured right in front of our eyes. How were we supposed to save him in this kind of situation? The Titan tilted his neck back and swallowed my innocent friend whole.
"NOOO!" I yelled. I prepared my weapons to kill the monster. All of a sudden, Armin grabbed my arm, holding me back from getting myself killed. Anger boiled inside of me. All I wanted to do was slaughter all of the Titans for all of the things they had taken away from so many people, including myself.
How could I have just sat and watched my friend get ruthlessly devoured. I felt so guilty for letting go so easily. Then again, how could I have rescued him?
