「Chapter 5」

Swinging my sword as hard as I could, I sliced off the ruthless giant's head. The body fell to the ground, causing me to slide out of its corpse. I was covered in its saliva. Levi zoomed over to me and asked, "you're not dead?"

"You can't get rid of me that easily" I giggled, wiping the smelly slime off of me. I spit some of it out of my mouth onto the filthy ground. It was red from all of the people it devoured.

"Are you okay, or what?" He questioned.

"Yeah, I got some Titan saliva in my mouth..." I couldn't help but laugh, those words sounded so strange. I was sure that he was disgusted, but the expression on his face said otherwise. He had a comforting smile resting on his face. I loved seeing his smile, it made the world stop.

He put his hands on my shoulders and pulled me into a tight hug. He held me for longer than last time. It felt warm and consoling. If only he could see how significant he is in my life I thought.

Being at the brink of death made me think, how can I die like this? I'm not ready... my life is only beginning. You only ever realize how important something is when you're about to lose it. This was only the start, I had only experienced an inch of my life.

After the battle with the Titans, we all grouped together to see that there were a lot of missing people. They had to be dead and many many people looked devastated. Their eyes lost their shine and were spaced. Their posture was poor and their arms dangled from the absence of motivation to continue fighting.

I understood how they felt, not entirely, but I realized that I lost a few of my friends during my scouting mission. I, too, wanted to give up slightly. But really, it almost made me want to fight harder, for the people I lost in this dreadful process.

This feeling boiled inside of me, I could feel it rushing through my body. That hatred I had for Titans only grew stronger. My hands were clenched so hard, I bruised my hands. Armin looked over to me and could see how angry I was, "you need to calm down. For now, we can only prepare for our next fight." he put a hand on my shoulder.

"I just want to kill them all now," I said, choking back tears.

"So does Eren, but we can't right now. You'll just get yourself killed."

"If that's what it takes, I'll do it a million times."

"You have the right attitude, but you need to strategize. The best thing we can do to get rid of them."

"You're right..." I needed a break so I walked away. Armin just watched me as I left the room. Why is everyone so calm and patient while others are dying, why aren't we doing anything unless we have to? I thought.

Flashback:

"... can you put away these new books I bought, Y/N?" My mother asked me.

"Of course!" I took the stack of books and walked over to the bookshelf.

"Y/N, you need to get some rest. You have some important things to do tomorrow," my father reminded me.

"I know, let me finish putting these away real quick."

My family was chilling in the living room, waiting for the dessert my mother had been baking to be done. The only sounds were crickets outside, the books sliding into their new spots in the bookshelf, and my sibling's whispering until...

*tHuD*

*ThUd*

I looked over to a pen that laid on the counter of the kitchen. It rattled against the cold, solid surface.

*BOOM*

The house shook and the candles inside the lights blew out. Chilling darkness overtook the room.

*cReeeEeEeekKk*

The faces of my family members shook me inside. Their eyes were wide and petrified. Their mouths open and shaking. I backed up from the bookshelf and looked through the window above it. There, in front of me, was a giant staring through the window and into our souls. It had a menacing grin that stretched from one end of its face to the other. W-what the hell is that?! It backed away before ramming into the wall I was right in front of. The bookshelf landed on top of me and I could hear my bones snap.
