Me and Molly spent an hour in Evie's bathroom. Safe to say I don't think I'll be able to look Jared in the eye for a while. We took a taxi home to Molly's and changed into our pajamas. I was so tired I didn't even take my makeup off and just crawled straight into bed. Molly knew parts of what had happened in the garden, but I planned on telling her later.Morning came, and Molly was dragging me out of bed by my ankles. It was a Saturday, which meant I was going to work, and Molly had a six hour shift at the big hotel near school. Grumbling, I got up and pulled my things into my bag. How was I more tired after sleeping? I didn't bother brushing my teeth or getting dressed. After peeing and saying morning to Molly's parents, I left the house and started walking to mine. Checking my phone, I had like an hour until I needed to be at the office. As if on cue, my phone started to ring.
"Hello?"
"Morning, darling. I hope you had a good night. I hate to ruin your and Molly's plans for today, but would you be able to watch Edward? I've been called in." I felt tension fill my body.
"Mum, I don't have plans with Molly today, I need to go to work. Can he not go see any of his friends?" It was annoying that she wouldn't let Edward stay at home by himself. I understand that she doesn't, all things considering, but it's so frustrating that it's always me who ends up having to watch him. All he does is play Xbox and re-read the Percy Jackson books.
"They're all busy or out. Please, darling? I'm already on my way to the hospital." I huffed and agreed to watch him. Bidding me goodbye my mother hung up the phone, just as I rounded the corner to my street. I climbed the steps and unlocked the front door, shouting out to Edward. Nothing. Rolling my eyes I went upstairs and threw my backpack somewhere in my room. I was going to be late if I didn't hurry. Grabbing my normal shoulder bag, I threw my phone and charger inside after checking the time. I had half an hour to get ready and walk there. It takes half an hour to get to the office.
Discarding my pajamas, I pulled on a random skirt I found on my floor. Grabbing new underwear, I put them on and grabbed a plain tank top from my drawers. Pulling a cardigan off the back of my door, I hurried to the bathroom and started to brush my teeth. Edward still hadn't appeared. I marched across the landing and pushed his door open. Edward was sitting on the carpet with his headphones in, playing some game on the Xbox. Rolling my eyes, I pulled the headphones off his head and told him to turn the game off.
"You're coming to work with me." I said, my mouth full of toothpaste. Edward shot me a dirty look and turned off the console. I returned to the bathroom and finished brushing my teeth in record time. Grabbing a hair brush from the cabinet, I attempted to drag it through my hair. Nothing was making it look any better. I huffed and snatched a nearby hair clip and left the bathroom. Running to my room and grabbing my bag, I hauled my butt downstairs where Edward was waiting by the front door.
By the time we made it to the office, it was quarter past eleven. I was supposed to be there by eleven. And now I had a random child with me. Praying that Mr Jackson wouldn't be really angry with me, I hurried us down the hallway. We made it to my desk without bumping into anyone, and I could have cried from relief.
I slumped into my chair, my bag resting by my feet on the floor. What was I supposed to do with Edward? Eyeing him as he blankly stared back at me, I began to stress out again. If Mr Jackson caught him here, surely I'd be in trouble? So I couldn't let him get caught. I glanced around the quiet open space. Maybe I could put him in the break room? But then I wouldn't be able to keep an eye on him. My eyes returned to the seating area across the room. I sighed. It would have to do. I just hoped I wouldn't get in trouble for this.
"Okay, can you sit over there? I don't know where else you can go, really. Will you be okay until 3? I need to stay a bit later today." Edward rolled his eyes at me, and sauntered over to the waiting area. I took a deep breath in, and then reached over to turn my computer on.
"Let me know if you need anything." I called over to my brother, who was already pulling a book out of his rucksack. He waved a dismissive hand at me without even looking up.
Opening a drawer, I pulled out a day planner. I had ordered one and it arrived the other day, which I was super grateful for. Before I started any work, I started to fill in everything I had to do today. Which was a lot.
It wasn't long before people began to trickle through the office, sending me a nod every so often. I didn't realise so many people worked on the weekends. Edward had moved on to another book from his bag, and hadn't said a word to me in almost two hours. One o'clock struck, and I dropped my pen with a sigh. Getting up, I cleared my throat and made my way to Mr Jackson's office. I knocked on the door and waited for an answer. Mr Jackson shouted me in, and I opened the door.
"Hi, Mr J. I was wondering if you wanted me to get you anything for lunch?" He was surrounded by paperwork laid out on his desk, his tie loosened and his shirt sleeves rolled up.
"I don't care, get me whatever. I don't want salad. Anything but salad." Mr Jackson snapped at me. I left his room and returned to my desk. I had a list of his favourite places, and they all had tabs connected to the company card so I didn't need to pay for anything. After deciding I would just go to the nearest cafe, I offered Edward to come with me. Then I asked him what he wanted for lunch. He didn't dignify either of my questions with a response, just sighed deeply and turned the next page in his book.
Grabbing my phone, I stepped into the elevator and thought about the decent sized dent I had managed to make in my workload this morning. Smiling to myself in content, I exited the lift, walking straight into Seeley and dropping my phone in the process. The audible smack it made when it hit the floor made me close my eyes in a grimace.
