Soft tears trickled down Mae's cheeks and onto his hoodie.

"I'll miss you, Rhiver," the girl choked out between tears.

The boy, now dubbed as Rhiver, smiled a painful grin, "I'll miss you too, Mae. And even if we're breaking up for now, remember that I'll always be there, okay? We started off as friends, and that'll never change."

"Breaking up for now."

With Mae moving across the country, long-distance was hard. Both of them relied on touch, and they took the mature move of breaking up since it was better for them.

Rhiver's smile broke for a split moment as he took off his hoodie and handed it to Mae, "take it."

Mae let go of Rhiver and laughed, "Seriously? This is your favorite hoodie though," she held up the discussed item; it was tan and stitched with roses.

"Just take it. I can always buy another," he shrugged and hugged Mae once more, "Well, goodbye I guess."

"Goodbye," Mae kissed his cheek one more time before wiping the tears with the edge of her sleeve and running to her mothers' car.

"Ready, hun?" Lina, one of Mae's mothers asked.

[mae refers to her parents by their first names because this family is just cool that way 😀 also, like 99% of this fandom has mommy and daddy issues so i'd rather not add more to that through a fanfiction lmao]

Mae nodded once more and the engine roared to life.

Mae had two mothers. Before she was born, her biological father had left Lina alone with Mae. A couple months after Mae was born, Lina met Eveline, who is now Mae's step-mother. The family got along well, since Mae never liked her father, and they all treated each other like sisters.

Eveline looked to the backseat from their spot in the passengers seat.

She smiled brightly at their step-daughter, "You'll always be able to call Rhiver, and you might meet someone new!"

Mae met Eveline's eyes with her own and matched their smile, "I sure hope so."

Leaning her head against the side of the car door, humming to the faint sound of Burning Pile in the background, and watching the gray blurs of trees hustle past the car window, Mae decided that maybe a change would be good.

And maybe I just might meet someone.

A tall teenager sat upon his windowsill, admiring the nature sat around him from his view. Ranboo lived in a two-story house placed in an exclusive place within a small forest, with an unoccupied house identical to his.

[i am, by no means, trying to guess where ranboo lives and who he lives with. that's intruding his privacy, and if you think that's okay you can leave. his house in this story was made for the plot, not to invade his privacy😀]

Most of the time, the houses were put under a wave of silence, since Ranboo's family were the only people who resided there. Today was no exception.

"I'm going to back, mom!" Ranboo called, closing up his window and putting on a sweater to match the cold weather.

"Sounds good! Be back at seven!" His mother, Marianna, called.

Ranboo looked at his phone, reading 5:34. A bit under two hours to himself.

The teen rummaged around in the pocket of his jeans until he pulled out his phone, then putting his playlist on shuffle. Cabinet Man started to play as he went out the back door and to the field that ran for miles behind his house.

He stopped walking when he reached his favorite spot, which still had his blanket from the previous night. When he fell down on the blanket, his hair brushed the field's flowers. It wasn't dark enough to spot the stars, but he was content with watching the moon's faint outline.

Out of nowhere, a voice filled the silence and Ranboo's heart nearly dropped.

"Hi!"
