“Every once in a while, someone will come into your life and shake the foundation at your feet. They’ll create fine cracks—fractures you can’t see until they become chasms so wide you can’t keep your balance while standing at the precipice of a life you no longer recognize. Sometimes that life is thrilling and you want to dive in—bathe yourself in the feeling as it seeps into your bones with the promise of greatness. A promise to change your life, ignite it—fill its lungs with hope. But other times... Well, other times that life is a deep abyss of one bad choice after another. Choices that leave you alone. Helpless. Your pride wounded and wondering how things went so wrong.

Except it was there all along—in those fine fractures you never saw before. It was always going to shatter. You just didn’t know if it would free you like a butterfly bursting from a chrysalis, or dismantle you like wolves scarfing down prey—with only your sorry bones left behind.

My someone was both.

A disaster.

A blessing.

Someone I’d never forget or regret.”
