Chapter 14 Suck It and See- Arctic Monkeys
The party ended pretty uneventfully. I was the last to leave and I barely even noticed that everyone else was gone.
I had been sitting in the backroom with Al, Laurie, and the younger kids. The youngest boy, Darry, had been explaining the plot of some sci-fy book to me when Zoe came in.
"Hi MJ," she greeted me. "I'm not trying to kick you out, but the kids promised to come help clean up."
They all groaned and I laughed.
"It's okay, I should be going anyway," I answered. I grabbed my coat from the side room and was making my way out the door when Zoe stopped me.
"It really was lovely having you over, MJ. I hope you had fun," she said kindly.
"I did, thanks for having me," I replied.
"We keep putting this off, but next time your parents are available, please tell us. I know they must be busy, but we would love to meet the people who raised such a wonderful girl."
"Okay, I'll make sure to tell you next time they're off work," I lied through my teeth.
Laurie stopped cleaning and looked at me, with raised brows and a smirk.
Maybe it was stupid, but suddenly just wanted to laugh. Laugh at everything.
I broke into a smile and held it back until I had finished wishing everyone goodbye.
"So, how'd it go?" Sam asked. I raised a brow at him and he continued. "Your boyfriend's parent's party?"
"You know very well that he's not my boyfriend," I grumbled. "Anyway, if anyone should be getting teased right now, it's you. How'd your study session with Rose go?"
A giddy smile appeared on his face and he shrugged.
"I can't believe it! You are head over heels for Rose, Laurie is head over heels for MJ and I'm here alone!" Theo moaned.
I patted his head lovingly. "Don't worry Theo, you'll find someone. Until then, we can be singles together because there's nothing going on between me and Laurie," I hissed the last part.
"The way things are going, there's nothing going on with Rose and me either. Or at least there won't be for a while," Sam added in.
"I thought it went well?" Theo asked.
"It did. But she spent quite a bit of time talking about some asshole of an ex boyfriend who cheated on her," he said.
I snorted. "She spent the whole time talking about her ex? And you still think it 'went well'?"
Sam sighed. "I don't know. I just like being around her. It feels like everytime she's around, she's the only thing in the room that matters. And when she laughs it's like-"
"Oh my god Sam please shut up before I puke!" I moaned at him.
"I think it's kind of sweet," Theo said, although he couldn't help but laugh.
I pretended to gag myself. "I don't need to hear your lovey dovey crap," I said.
"It's not lovey dovey! It's honest!" he defended himself.
I rolled my eyes.
"MJ doesn't have a romantic bone in her body, does she?" A deep voice behind me said.
I turned to see Laurie as the boys laughed and affirmed his statement.
"When did you get here?" I asked.
