The next few hours passed like a blur. The silence fell back upon them like a blanket and no one made any move to interact. Maximus was thinking about his future battle plans and his next attack.

He was slightly stressed out though because there was a chance of the trip taking longer than expected. Maximus didn't have any longer to waste. He was a busy man and had, to be frank, shit to do.

Alexis wasn't doing any better. She was stressed out because she shouldn't have agree to help Dan. She was indangering her life and Maximus's. Alexis couldn't help but feel like something terrible would happen soon. They were nearing the border between Canada and Michigan. If they were lucky they would be in Toronto by early morning.

As the world flashed past Alexis's eyes she couldn't help but remember the death of her father. He was murdered by a man similar to Maximus, cold and heartless. She should have felt extremely uncomfortable around Maximus, since he reminded her of her father's killer, but she didn't. Of course she didn't trust him, but she wasn't particularly on edge.

"Shoot," Maximus suddenly exclaimed, his head craned backward.

"What?" Alexis replied and glanced at him out of the corner of her eye.

"I just saw one of Riker's men, Johnson Biry, trailing us from a distance. I thought that devil was dead!"

"Really?! That means Riker defintely knows where we are."

"Yup," Maximus said.

"What are we going to do?"

"Turn right here, and then listen very carefully to my directions."

Alexis raised her eyebrows in a questioning way but didn't say anything. She turned when he pointed, as fear crept into her veins.

"Ditch the car, cross the border, then run West. You'll be close to Toronto and you can ask for directions. Try to cover your scent." Maximus said.

"What about you?" Alexis questioned.

"Hah, they don't stand a chance against me."

"Will I see you again?" Alexis said.

"Maybe," Maximus shrugged, and though it seemed that they were caught red-handed, Alexis noticed there was no sight of fear in his eyes.

Alexis got out of the car, took her keys with her, and frowned at his words. She thought he sounded a bit suspicious but she was unsure. Alexis merely attributed his strange behavior to the high-pressure situation. She turned to leave and eyed Maximus one last time before she started to back up and exit the scene.

Maximus made sure she was out of sight before he climbed into the driver's seat. In a few minutes, the dashboard was opened and the engine was ready to go. He smirked as he started the car and pulled backwards, back onto the main road. Alexis would be running towards Manitoba and Maximus would be long gone before she discovered she was betrayed.

Maximus cracked his neck and looked back to make sure Alexis wasn't behind him. Hopefully she won't follow. Though Dan had said Alexis would be a good partner, he didn't trust Dan's words. Riker himself was not a huge threat, but the upcoming war could be. Strangely, although Alexis and Maximus had just met, he felt silent connection between the two of them. Maximus needed to cut ties with her to make sure she couldn't be used against him.

He glanced at his rearview window and frowned a little. He resisted the urge to swear but knew that if he lost his temper it would only hinder him more. The figure he saw that followed him made him groan.

If she gets hurt, it's her fault, Maximus decided. Then, he yawned as he stared at the vast winding road in front of the car.

In a few miles he would ditch the nice car, shame really, and hijack a cheaper car. Then, he would continue his drive back towards his pack, besides he had an important meeting to get to. Maximus sighed, having not slept in over twenty-four hours.

This would be a long drive.

Four hours later, he drove past the Welcome To Toronto sign. Maximus stopped for a minute to relieve himself on a bush and another time at a Tim Horton's. He had long finished his donut but the smell of cinnamon lingered in the air. Hopefully, his Beta, Tristan, had everything under control that concerned his pack.

The static of the car's radio jolted him out of his thoughts. Maximus had the station quietly playing the news but nothing has really caught his attention. The female reporter, named Linda or Lily, he couldn't remember, was now relaying the weather to the audience.

Yay, rain. Maximus thought, it's not like we don't get enough.

Another reporter cut Linda/Lily off quite suddenly,

"Breaking News: Man on the run. He has killed seventeen civilians in twenty-two days. Last seen in British Columbia. He seems like he's heading south-east, most likely trying to cross the border. Personal is armed and dangerous. Described as skinny with a red flame tattooed on his left wrist. Be on the watch. That is all," the new male reporter said.

Maximus gripped the steering wheel, his eyes ablaze. The announcement raised some suspicion but Maximus brushed it off. That man was Riker, Maximus had no doubt in his mind. The presence of Riker was similar to a mosquito. He was annoying, yet you couldn't seem to get rid of him. Maximus let out a soft growl, he couldn't believe the game Riker was playing. He knew Riker when they were teenagers and Riker was just as insane then.

Riker had vast hated for Maximus. He, himself didn't even understand why Riker hated him so much. Riker made many threats toward Maximus and wasn't very discreet in their early college years. So, Maximus gathered enough evidence of Riker's threats to put him behind bars, even if it was only temporary. Maximus knew he could take Riker but just in case he put him in jail. But, Riker escaped exactly twenty-two days after he was captured, and left a letter on his bed for Maximus. In the letter, he swore that the next time he met Maximus, he'll have killed seventeen-hundred innocent people. Riker was a dangerous threat back in England. Once he escaped that country, he changed his name and facial features, so he wouldn't be found. He's killed hundreds of people by now, Maximus was sure of it.

Riker was dangerous and insane, but not very careful. If only the Mounties weren't so stupid, then they might've been able to identify Riker before he struck and stop him. Yet, Maximus knew Riker would never be stopped until he was dead. Maximus just needed to be one step ahead of Riker to capture him, and for that, he'd need the support of his pack.
