I wasn't even supposed to be here.

I was racing through the streets of New York, dodging between people. I glanced at my watch as I finally reached the short glass building.

Quickly, I straightened my shirt and consciously patted down my untamed hair. I was already late, I rather not be unkept as well.

I took a deep breathe before stepping into the havoc that is the Valle Newspaper Agency. All I smell is coffee and more coffee.

I saw Gillie at the front desk, frowning slightly while shaking her arms frantically. After catching my eye, she pointed to the big brass doors which was just about to close.

"Thank you" I mouthed, over the chaos of people walking around before dashing to the closing doors

I darted into the big conference room in the nick of time. Everyone was just settling in and I was thankful that no one was paying attention to my frazzled state. I took a seat further down the back and took out my small laptop.

"Good morning everyone. Thank you for being here for today's update. Due to the recent transition to moving our platform online, it has been the biggest achievement we had yet. Well statistically of course. Although we are already increasing in a staggering pace, there is no doubt that there is always room for improvement." The head of the newspaper agency, Dean drilled on.

I listened attentively, passion filling my thoughts. Everyone was on their edge of their seats, trying to gobble up as much information as possible. Despite their ages, everyone has the passion of an aspiring child. I was young in the industry. It has only been a year since I graduated with a specialised diploma in Journalism.

The meeting quickly ended and everyone pushed forward to squeeze through the doors. I slowly packed my bag, trying to hid myself from the tall Dean at the front of the room. Just as I was about to make my escape, I heard my name being called out.

"Quincy." A booming voice echoed through the now empty room.

I flinched. I took a deep breath before turning around smiling at the disapproving look Dean wears constantly.

"Late again?"

"Of course not sir I have been here since the start of the morning."

Dean pursed his lips, before seeming to shrug it off, "I have a new assignment for you. An interesting one in fact. It might even be in the headlines if ur lucky enough."

I immediately perked up. A headline-worthy story? As a first year journalist, they stuck me with being assistant or the small assignments. This is probably my big break if I can nail it right.

Ecstatic, I scanned through the file that Dean has given me. My smile immediately dropped once I saw who the assignment was about.

Dante De Luca.

I tried to relax but my rigid form wouldn't allow me to. I stared out of my window and into a park, seeing a dog taking a dump right outside.

Email or text?

"Email, email. Thats more professional." I muttered to myself.

Usually I would be quick and efficient in whatever I do. However this time, I just seemed lost as my fingers hover over the keyboard.
