Upon seeing her mother's face she knew she would be in for it.
Maybe she'd get the belt? Or the slipper?
Whatever punishment her mother was going to dish out she silently prayed that it wouldn't have anything to do with quitting the band.

Nella was a fairly new member of the pop rock/punk group known as Sunset Curve; after knowing Alex for ten years and the rest of the boys for one she was recruited into the band as the female lead/keyboard player, meaning she had been in the band for just over a year.
Much like Luke's battle with his Mom, Emily, Antonella's mother hadn't approved of her decision to join Sunset Curve because in her words, "ballet is your dream."
Truth be told ballet wasn't AJ's dream. It was however her mother's, she was involved in a car accident that left her left leg shattered. It crushed any hope of Antonella's mother becoming a professional dancer meaning she lived vicariously through her daughter. Nella wanted her Mom's validation but being in a band is what she wanted to do with her life. Dancing is fun but it's not as great as writing and performing music.
When being invited to formally join the band Nella knew there would be a problem with rehearsals. Luke had taken the band very seriously as he wanted to show Emily that his career choice was in-fact worth it, this resulted in Luke ensuring every member was in Bobby's garage promptly; he'd even go out of his way to beat Bobby there. The problem with this is that Nella still had ballet practice. The only solutions that came to mind were to skip the practice, quit ballet or quit the band.
Option 3 was not happening. Being in the band allowed AJ to feel something she had never felt before, valued. The boys liked her songs, they listened to her input and they were proud of how far she had come, the opposite of how her mother treated her.
Option 1&2 well there weren't exactly plausible at least that's what she thought. After her mother had shouted at the dancers which felt like hours, she wanted to show them the correct sequence of moves. Despite being told to never dance again her mother still attempted to do so falling oh-so gracefully out of the pirouette section. Elena then tried to show them how high their grand jetes should be, the keyword being tried. Elena's left foot came into contact with the hard floor and her ankle gave in causing her to fall to the floor, all of the ballerinas rushed towards their instructor, all except Nella who had to hide her smirk.
You're probably wondering what sick child would bask in their mother's pain and the answer was AJ.
She wasn't enjoying her mother's pain per se but she was enjoying what her injury would mean for the studio and herself.
