Love vs. Lust
I threw myself out of bed feeling happier to get up then I have in a while. I wasn’t sure if I was going to see Gordon today but I made an effort to look good anyway. I got dressed in a denim mini skirt, a tight black tank top and flats. It wasn’t much but it was the sexiest outfit I owned. I added some make up and wore my hair lose.
When I was done getting ready I headed downstairs and was relieved to see that Cole wasn’t there. I made myself some cereal and sat down at the table. Conner came in while I was washing the dishes and told me that he chased Cole away last night and that he would be driving us to school from now on which was perfectly fine with me. Cole and Conner had some fights before and usually it didn’t take them long to make up but Conner is a good brother so I had no idea if they were going to sort it out this time. Oh well, I’ll just enjoy it while it lasts I thought to myself.
The car was filled with silence as we drove, it was awkward and it spoiled my good mood a bit. When Conner pulled into a parking space I jumped out and made my way into school. I found Shelby waiting at my locker for me and was grateful that I still had her as a friend. As soon as she saw me she squealed and threw her arms around me, hugging me excitedly.
“What was that for?” I asked when she finally calmed down.
“Walter asked me to go to the dance with him on Friday! I can’t believe he even noticed me but he said that he’s had his eye on me for a while and though I was really hot. You’ve got to come, please, I need the moral support” Shelby babbled so fast I battled to understand what she was saying.
“Oh, uhm, I don’t know, what dance?” I asked confused.
“Well if you paid a little bit more attention to what was going on around you, you would know” Shelby laughed. I frowned at her and looked around me. The walls were filled with posters announcing a dance and there was even a big banner hanging from the roof. How on earth I missed it I had no idea.
“So will you come?” Shelby asked pleadingly.
“I don’t think so, I mean, I don’t even have something proper to wear” I answered making up an excuse. It was true though, like I said the sexiest clothes I had was what I had on and I would just feel like a complete idiot if I went to the dance in a pair of jeans and a t shirt.
“We can go shopping after school, I’ll pay for everything. My mom gave me her credit card and said that I could get whatever I wanted” Shelby replied hopefully.
“You know I can’t let you do that” I answered, it would just make me feel like crap.
“Of course you can! I really don’t want to go alone” Shelby begged.
I didn’t give in immediately but by the end of the day she was still begging and pleading and she finally got me to agree. I really didn’t want to go but she was my friend and I guess I could survive a lousy dance if it would make her happy. I told Conner that we were going shopping and then headed to the mall with Shelby. We headed straight to this one store that had the cutest outfits.
“So are you going to ask somebody to go with you?” Shelby asked as we fitted on some of the clothes.
