Ichika stood up and began making her way to the door when the dismissal bell rang.
Just then, she heard someone shouting.
"There are a bunch of people at the door!" Uraraka exclaimed.
"You won't hold us hostage!" Mineta shouted, his voice quivering.
Ichika walked to the edge of the commotion, curiously trying to peek over the shoulders of the people crowding the door.
"I can't see," she muttered.
"They're scouting out the competition, idiots," Bakugo walked through the crowd and the people parted as he stepped forward. Ichika took that opportunity to follow in the path he made. "We're the class that survived a real villain attack. They want to see us with their own eyes."
A few of the kids up front faltered when Bakugo came face-to-face with them, his expression not once changing from one of anger.
"At least now you know what a future pro looks like. Now move it, extras."
His statement wasn't received well by his classmates or the new crowd.
"You can't walk around calling people extras because you don't know their names!" Iida exclaimed, chopping at the air.
Ichika remained silent as she stood behind Bakugo, watching him carefully. Intimidation was his game. She felt no violence coming off of him; he was pretty harmless in that moment.
She heard a mellow voice speak up from the back of the crowd.
"So this is class 1-A," a boy with messy purple hair and bags under his eyes approached, "I heard you guys were impressive, but you just sound like an ass."
That was bold, Ichika thought, peering out at the crowd. She looked up at Bakugo to watch his reaction.
"Is everyone in the hero course delusional, or just you?" Purple Hair asked. Bakugo got angrier, and Ichika could feel the violence start to roll off of him in waves. If this kid kept this up then she'd end up sick. "How sad to come here and find a bunch of egotistical maniacs."
"Bakugo..." she reached out and grabbed onto his shirt. Surprisingly, she felt the violence waver as he glanced down at her, then turned his attention back to Purple Hair.
"I wanted to be in the hero course, but like many people here, I was forced to choose a different track. Such is life."
Bakugo scoffed at his words.
Purple Hair continued. "I didn't cut it the first time around, but I have another chance. If any of us do well in the sports festival, the teachers can decide to transfer us to the hero course. And they'll have to transfer people out to make room. Scouting the competition? Maybe some of my peers are, but I'm here to let you know that if you don't bring your very best, I'll steal your spot right out from under you."
Ichika didn't like hearing this guy speak to her friends that way. She took a deep breath, stepping forward.
Intimidating. Like Annya.
"Consider this a declaration of war, because—" the purple-haired boy began, but Ichika cut him off.
She wiped all emotion from her face and stood a little straighter in an attempt to mimic her older sister, and then looked him in the eyes. "I'm gonna stop you right there."
She heard a few gasps from behind her; she knew her peers must be surprised by the sudden harshness.
She held a cold tone in her voice. "We all worked like hell to get our spot in this class, and if you think your little speech is going to scare us into giving up, you're dead wrong. After all the work and training we've done to get here, your chances of beating us are slim to none. It sucks that you were dealt these cards, but don't expect this to be an easy win, because none of us are holding back."
