"She never even apologized."
The Houston native's eyes averted to the smaller woman across from her, raising an eyebrow at the comment.
"Did you want her to?"
"Yes," Normani huffed, sliding further into the leather chair. In a way, she was admitting her defeat. She shouldn't have cared enough to seek an apology from Megan after what she did but she couldn't help it. "I wanted to know that she still cared about me, even if she didn't love me the same. I was everything she wanted at one point in time and for her to just treat me like I was nothing, it hurt."
Normani spoke her truth, letting the words tug at her ex lover's heart strings. Megan found herself self consciously licking her lips before her gaze fell upon Victoria, their friend whose actions were mirroring a relationship counselor.
Megan's eyes then became locked on Ryan, Victoria's current partner in crime. This had been their plan all along, to get Normani and her into a room together in attempt to mend things. The two were in way over their head, there was no reconciliation when it came to Normani and herself. Their relationship resembled a candle that reached it's peak, the flame had destroyed and melted everything on it's way, leaving no way to reignite it.
Done. Finished. Finito.
"Why didn't you?" Ryan queried, curiosity laced with a slight hint of worry detected in her voice.
Megan slanted an eyebrow, showing her confusion before making the woman sigh. "Apologize, why didn't you apologize?""Because, I wasn't sorry at the time."
"At the time?"
"I am now." Megan admitted and she was, Megan had realized she was a fool to not think her actions would impact Normani. For some reason, she had convinced herself that Normani moved on and everything that transpired between them meant nothing to her. Maybe it was to help ease her guilty conscience.
"But why weren't you sorry then-"
"Why would I be? I had just done it and I didn't regret it in that moment, I felt like she deserved it and she deserved to-" Megan stopped herself, opting on cutting her rant short. Her goal wasn't to make Normani feel any more bad than she already has. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry now."
"I accept your apology." Normani announced, Megan felt her chest tighten yet began to feel lighter all in one. How? "I just don't want you to hate me anymore."
Megan shook her head, three pair of eyes fixed on her while she did so. "I never hated you, never." She exhaled, sliding both palms down the sides of her blue jeans.
Talking directly to Normani felt different, they had been talking through their friends up until now and it was causing Megan to become far more anxious.
"You told me that you didn't love me anymore," Normani reminded her ex girlfriend, wincing a little as if Megan had just told her. Megan was the wound that Normani tried to put a bandaid over but sitting here with her was like having the bandage ripped off and salt poured onto it.
"I didn't mean it, I just-" Megan kept falling short with her words, biting the end of her lip as she looked down at her lap. She wish she knew what to say, to make everything better.
She wish that they could start over.
"So you did love her at the time?"
"I did. I still do." Megan replied while looking at Victoria, the one who asked the question. She even nodded her head as she answered, a way to showcase her certainty.
"Then why lie?" Victoria pressed, leaning forward due to being completely enthralled in this situation. Her friends had given her a taste of her own personal soap opera.
