chapter twenty eight

THE NEXT MORNING Jack was the first one to wake up. He didn't get much sleep now that he saw her again, after so long. He wasn't ready. He convinced himself that he was over her, and that she was just another friend. Deep down his heart felt hurt but he was too focused on his current relationship to notice it.

Unfortunately, Fleur was used to waking up early, so she was the second person downstairs in the kitchen. They awkwardly exchanged good mornings and continued doing regular tasks. Fleur was aching to know why he was suddenly so distant. Did he just not like her anymore? Did he change his mind when he read the hate comments?

She was already thinking of him a lot, and now the overthinking was driving her insane. It was like her brain couldn't stop thinking at all.

None of them noticed a tired Jonah when he walked down the stairs. He stopped and looked at them for a minute, noticing that something was off. He remembered clearly that Jack and Fleur used to joke around none stop. Well it was always Jack making her laugh because by default, Fleur didn't talk that much, but now it seemed almost as if they were ignoring each other.

Jonah narrowed his eyes and could almost see the tension in the air. It was uncomfortable and he didn't like seeing his two friends so distant. He knew that Jack was the one person that Fleur opened up to most. Now it looked like they were strangers.

Of course, Jack was in a relationship, but Jonah wasn't dumb. He could see that he wasn't really happy with Gabbie. Not just the feelings, but with her living so far it was quite difficult.
