Lately, I find my self to be reading a lot of rejected mate story's. Where mostly the main character(a girl) is terrible abused, used and harassed. Most often then not, the character is really ugly and becomes very beautiful after being rejected and running away. They then come back for some reason or another and their mates see how breath taking they turned and ends up wanting them back.
By reading such a type(I say type because really there are millions of them) of story, I have to ask me self the same thing every time. If they hadn't ran away and become beautiful would their mates still regret rejecting them? So in the end, was it all based on their looks? I wonder, that's like saying that if and ONLY if your pretty do you get the guy?
I may not be a writer, but while writing this I wrote a short part to a story. It goes like this:
I had thought meeting my mate, would be something special. You know: Someone to love and understand me. I mean yes, I had based the mate thing on things I have only read and heard about, but who hadn't? The whole, a person for me and me alone. A perfect Cinderella story. Only as I have come to realize I'm not Cinderella and this wasn't a story. This was real life. And in real life, the ugly girl doesn't get the handsome prince. There is no godmother and talking mouse to make things better. Just cold reality.
If you disagree on anything I have said write to me about why.
