I am a young adult author who specializes in writing about zombies. And vampires. And zombies who hate vampires. And vampires who hate zombies. And sometimes werewolves, who really can’t stand anybody.
I can’t really remember when I got addicted to being scared, but it had to be young. I can remember the first book I ever read that truly, really, scared me was Stephen King’s The Shining, and I know I got in trouble for reading it too young. (Which is like telling someone to keep their hands out of the cookie jar!) After that, I was hooked.
I taught English and Drama in high school and middle school, and when I was a teacher R. L. Stine’s Goosebumps were all the rage. I can vividly remember standing in front of a class full of kids, them hanging on every word, and thinking, “Man, it would be great to do this with my own words some day!”
And so, a future YA author was born. To keep fueling my supernatural YA “tank,” I watch a lot of horror movies. I call it “research.” My wife Martha calls it “gross.” Then again, if I tell her a particular horror movie is about alligators, giant Komodo dragons or dinosaurs, she’s all over it. (Women and their prehistoric, giant alligators, I’ll never understand them!)
All of this is to say, I like being scared. I like scaring people. But not too much. I think two of the greatest emotions anyone can feel are being scared, and then laughing about being scared. I try to give readers both.
I hope you liked the sampling of stories and poems I’ve included here on Wattpad.com. If you like zombies, I’ve got ‘em. If you’re a vamp person (you know, but not literally), I’ve got you covered. I’ve even thrown in a little werewolf stuff, just for fun.
If you want to read more, or hear more about writing, reading and even promoting YA literature, come check out my blog at http://zombiesdontblog.blogspot.com/. I hope to see you there soon!
