Pat Frayne is a recently retired registered nurse with twelve grandchildren. She writes mystical adventurous mysteries about a endowed with magical abilities. These stories are for parents and grandparents as well as for young adults. They are a bit scary, lots of fun, and there's an emphasis on the value of friendship and loyalty. . Caitlin, Pat's nine year old granddaughter, was her inspiration for the second book, Part #2 Topaz and the Plum-Gista Stone. Pat writes: "As I was trying to get past a stumbling block in the first chapter, I received a letter from Caitlin. It was a single paragraph she had typed on the computer. Knowing I was going to write another story for her, she wondered if I would include her idea. The paragraph Caitlin sent me described a specific dilemma for the characters in the story. The dilemma turned out to be the very solution I needed to get past my stumbling block in the story. It also introduced a new character, a Fawn named Daisy." Pat lives in a small town in Arizona with her husband, Ron and their dog, Charlie, a black lab mix.

King Kittle's cat, Topaz, was quite large. He weighed more than the king, and his shoulders passed the king's waist. His thick short hair, the color of butter, was striped with pale orange and his eyes were a deep shade of yellow topaz, the gem for which he was named. They possessed an eerie, luminous quality that was impossible to describe. There were times when the cat appeared to be looking through an object rather than resting his gaze upon it. This was quite unsettling to others, especially if the cat happened to be looking at them.
