Other than writing - which is an obsession - I love to run, whether that is in the local fields and forests here in the North Downs, or a short drive to the coast where I run barefoot, even in the depths of winter.

I love to cook and have the opportunity to travel with work to places as diverse as Mexico and Malawi, Chile and China, Israel and Iran.

Some of my favourite authors include:

Hermann BROCH
Lewis CAROLL
Paulo COELHO
Gabriel GARCIA MARQUEZ
Franz KAFKA
Milan KUNDERA
HOMER
Ben OKRI
John STEINBECK

And some of my favourite novels:

BROCH, The Sleepwalkers
COELHO, The Alchemist
KUNDERA, Slowness
HOMER, The Iliad, Odyssey
OKRI, The Famished Road
STEINBECK, The Grapes of Wrath

Short stories:

KAFKA, Metamorphosis, A Report to the Academy
KUNDERA, Laughable Laughs
OKRI, Stars of the New Curfew

And non-fiction:

KRUGER, Weaving the Word (The Metaphorics of Weaving and Female Textual Production)
KUNDERA, The Art of the Novel
WEIL & BESPALOFF, War and the Iliad

I am married, with two children. Our son is 12 and daughter six. Nothing quite like a family to prevent one from becoming idle ))
