Hello, greetings and salutations! My name is Emily Shaindlin. I'm 21 years old and I've been writing for almost as long. I live in Washington state and I go to school in Portland Oregon where I'm studying music theory and english literature. When I'm not busy with school work, I like to write stories of a particularly fantastical nature. My latest and best one is called Shades of Grey. If you were to mix elements from the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Dracula and add a little chemical X, then you would end up with Shades of Grey. :) I'm quite proud of it and am actively searching for an agent to represent it. As you all know, that search is quite difficult...

When I'm not writing, I'm usually acting in plays or playing my guitar. I like to play 70's/80's metal (which is also what I mostly listen to.) Suzi Quatro (the girl on my background), the Runaways, Deep Purple, Metallica, Rush, Motley Crue, Thin Lizzy etc. I also listen to good movie scores like stuff by Jonny Greenwood, Danny Elfman, Clint Mansell etc. I'm pretty eclectic in my musical tastes. :) It helps with writing. 

My movie tastes are almost just as broad and have just as big an influence over my writing life. I like superhero flicks (Superman Returns, Dark Knight, etc), interesting historical epics (the Other Boelyn Girl, Elizabeth, The Prestige, etc), the chinese wire movies (Hero, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, House of Flying Daggers) and I'm beginning to get quite nostalgic as well (Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, How to Train your Dragon, etc.) Pretty much, I like anything awesome. :)
