Elissa Malcohn's novelette "Lazuli" (Asimov's, Nov. 1984) made her a 1985 John W. Campbell Award finalist for best new science fiction writer of the year. Her short story "Moments of Clarity" (Full Spectrum, Bantam, 1988) reached preliminary ballot for the 1989 Nebula Awards.  She has been published since the 1970s.

"The Last Dragon Slayer" (in Mythic Delirium #24) garnered her fifth Rhysling Award nomination in 2012. Elissa edited Star*Line, journal of the Science Fiction Poetry Association, from 1986-88 and guest-edited in 2011. Her poems have also appeared in Asimov's, The Fifth Di..., Eye to the Telescope, Dreams and Nightmares, A Sea of Alone: Poems for Alfred Hitchcock (Dark Scribe Press), The Open Laboratory 2010: The Best of Science Writing on the Web, Goblin Fruit, Astropoetica, microcosms, Space and Time, Strange Horizons, WeMoon, and elsewhere.
