For as long as I can remember I have had a love affair with books. Growing up, when I could not be found the reason was, 'She's somewhere with her nose in a book.'. My parents were not readers. They were practical and in their opinion reading was a non-essential activity, even frivolous. After all they were the descendants of Scots who had been driven from their crofts to mmake way for sheep. Education was essential and I truly engaged in language and literature. In our house, there was a collection of the Books of Knowledge, The Bible and assorted Christian tracts and newspapers. The Carnegie library in town was magical and the librarian an angel. The first books I got into reading were The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, Tom Sawyer, an eclectic mix. And of course I kept a diary for my secret thoughts, dreams and disasters of the teen years. Crime fiction still holds my imagination and a recent article in The Globe and Mail by Mark Kingwell brilliantly addresses my curiosity for the genre which he defines as 'intellectual baseball'. Among my favorite writers are Alice Monroe whose short stories will always fascinate, crime novelists including Ian Rankin,Jo Nesbo, Henning Mankell, Lee Childs and many more. This is my first self-published novel which is available at Chaptes.com, Branes and Nobel Amazon.ca in soft cover as well as an e-book. Thank you for your comment! I really appreciate the time you took to read my story and I will try to write some each day. :) Thanks again, happy_times
Clap clap clap. Brilliant story, fantastically written. Clear, concise, imaginative. I enjoyed every moment reading it. I felt I was there, and could not help reading the characters parts in what I would imagine their accents to be.
