Going to a writing club once a month helps keep me alive and gives me enough tickover to keep my writing hands in, as I'm not always inspired to write. Sometimes, as a result of a writing challenge or a flash fiction, my stories get legs and run away with me. Other times they come from seeing something random, like somebody eating popcorn and I am compelled to get the words on a page. As much as I infrequently like to write, I'm somewhat loathe to edit but once I start become obsessed. It puts me off the idea of writing a long story because I would need the age of the Universe squared to complete the Nth Degree editing because I always seem to find the odd typo, like the hidden teaspoons that lurk in the dirty dish water of the washing up bowl. Still looking for that happy medium of editing. For now I'm a flash fiction, short stories, novella kind of a guy. And I love writing poetry too, to which all of the same applies.
