Set in the 19th century New Orleans, the story depicts La gente libre de color or The Free People of Colour, a dazzling yet damned class caught between the world of white privilege and black oppression.
Slaves, both immortal and mortal, have just been freed, and it has been written that people of colour would no longer work under white homes. They were declared free in France, and also in many regions about, where slaves were also freed. This was the turning point for many, including the halfbreeds of slave owners.
In 1843, A woman, well endowed and freed by her father, Faith Silouette, A vampire, have claimed her cottage and lived well. She was amongst vampire friends, all halfbreeds of some sorts, and werewolf workers, some wealthy as the vampires were, and they were in perfect harmony in the riversides of New Orleans.
But, the slave owners, the immortal ones, were planning a ambush to take back freed slaves, by offering them a place at their side... As a wife, or a apprentice in their flurishing shops. The Oppression over the free were tremendous... Even to the werewolves.
A werewolf, recently freed from his grounds, came and flurished quickly in great wealth. He lives in the outskirts of he vampire's town, wheree of which he produced a ball. This... Is where the story begins.
Faith Silouette, and her two comapians, Lisette st. Lion and Abagail De Lioncourt, go to the ball, but unlike Faith, Lisette and Abagail go to find suiters to marry. Faith doesn't want to marry, if it is not for love, And soon finds herself enticed with a werewolf, something she did not expect. But, she is not sure of what to make of it. As the wolf take advances to see her, a white vampire, Hector de Cortez, places threats upon her to marry his son, Viktor de Cortez, someone she cares not or.
