Conductives carry enough of the recessive Conductivity Strain to gather energy and store it in their bodies. But unless they learn to control and release the energy, life becomes a struggle, waiting for when the next big shock might come. The rise of visionaries intent on exploiting the Conductive condition to further their goals certainly doesn’t make anything easier. ~ When Nissa’s Conductivity is discovered and she becomes a resident of the Polytech Conductive Center, she’ll have to come to grips with her new identity within a year; once eighteen, she’ll decide whether or not to remain to continue physical therapy and training. But she’s scarcely arrived when a string of arsons begin, and all evidence implies she’s the culprit. Only a few weeks into knowing she’s a Conductive, and already she’s made an enemy. ~ The only one of a Conductive family to not reveal signs of Conductivity until near age fifteen, Alec always felt the odd man out. Once entering Polytech, he finds he’s not so alone anymore, but the pressure to perform well in the International Conductive Decathlon – a competition designed to introduce Conductivity to the public – is too much to handle. The offer of help outside of Polytech is tempting, even with it’s price being classified files about the Conductive Strain. ~ On his own since age sixteen, Rykel never wants to fear separation again. But despite himself, he’s become attached to the other Conductives at Polytech. Some of his new contacts, however, seem to know more about his condition and the events that brought him to Polytech than they let on. If his suspicions prove true, a single misstep could endanger his new friends, and when the Conductive community is threatened by those who took everything from him, Rykel must decide between letting the past go and saving his new family, or else striking out on his own on the slim chance of saving the loved one he lost.
