Sweet Sorrows

I stopped. Shocked at what I saw before me. It was time. There was nothing I could do. I just stood there: eyes wide open and my mouth agape, waiting for the inevitable to happen. At first I thought I was going deaf. There was silence all around me and all of my attention was on what was in front of me. For some strange reason there was a massive force on me so that I couldn’t move a muscle. My body was temporarily paralyzed. I couldn’t send any messages to my brain to make myself move! It felt as if I had already left my body. I couldn’t tell my right foot from my left. Then as it saw me for the first time the remote control in my head was turned on full volume and all at once a rush of sound struck me: the ear-splitting shriek of wheels turning. The honk of a horn. A scream…
